Culture is not just a buzzword

somehow richt turned the bad culture golden left into a 9 win team and a 10 win team b2b. good coaching can win and even in year 1, richt had a 4 game losing streak. team turned the corner after that and closed w 5 straight wins. this team is getting blown out by everyone under the sun.

While this group took a team that didn't quit the second half of last season and played with some dog in them, neutered them, and said you're going to do it this way. All so they could do it their way.

For all this culture crap people want to talk about, there sure were a lot of people posting how they finally were buying into what Manny was selling. Albeit it was all too little too late, they were ready for someone to take them on the next step of their journey.

Absolute failure of a job this year and it's on them.

Dudes around here who have never been part of a successful organization are going to laugh at this.
Or been a part of world championship winning sporting organizations…

It means a LOT. Hard to say if that is entirely our problem but based on my personal experience I can say it was a huge difference maker in my career.

Good point...but I still say coaching as a whole, has been poor. Our Offensive game plan has been Garbage...which in turn, puts that much more pressure on our defense. In all my yrs as a UM fan...I've never seen such a Garbage Red Zone offense. We have enough talent on this team to have Won 7-8 games...and possibly 9 with a little luck.
Do you jave faith Mario can/ will adjust?

Wait, this isn’t a message board of hall of fame world champions and fortune 5 leadership?

Great organizational leaders are also very intentional with their messaging…. In the continued defense of Mario, OP decided to make culture a buzzword by saying it wasn’t a buzzword vs adding his comments to the existing thread on the exact same article … 👀

Culture in a football team is how you as a team think, speak, and act. It is a collective mindset that dictates your habits both small and large built toward end goals. It is literally everything. Ask any winning coach - Saban, Dabo, whatever...they will all tell you how important this is. It is everything, it is the only thing.

Since the last vestiges of our last championship team left this program, there has not been a single season of Miami football that has had a collective buy-in. We have had horrendous culture at this school filled with players that simply do not buy in at the standard required to win in college football at the bar this program set. That isn't to say we haven't had some dawgs and good players, but we have not had a collective buy-in at all. At this level, everybody "works hard"...but they don't work hard enough here. At this level, everybody is "talented"...but our players haven't been that talented, especially not talented enough to not work hard. We've had divisions in the locker room, in position groups, full on mutiny by players, giving up in games and on the season annually, negligence by coaches that have allowed this **** to fester like untreated cancer and staff (look at some of the heartbreaking career injuries we've seen!)...its ******* gross. All of it.

We are a dilapidated program, we have been the antithesis of everything that is good in college football...there is nothing fun about being a Miami Hurricane or being a Miami Hurricane fan. It sucks. Its not even about wins and losses...those suck, too. But its how we win. How we lose. It all ******* sucks. That is the CULCHA of this program. It matters. Ours sucks. Fin.

We shouldn't even be having a discussion about our players not liking an offensive coordinator and the fact that this **** leaks to jabrones on a messages board is even worse. You've got players that straight up sandbag out there. Your eyes see it, just like mine. That **** is unacceptable no matter who the OC is. If you've ever played a sport or coached...like, this is foundational **** of team sports. They teach this **** in Pop Warner. Seeing this nonsense by adults getting paid to play the game is disrespectful to all stakeholders in this program and some of yall that have followed this program should be disgusted. Its embarrassing. Its been going on for nearly 20 years at this point. Enough is enough. Stop enabling this ****.

Mario can fix it, or go away just like every other bum that came before him and we can try this again. Its a results business.

A group of mostly teenagers isn't going to do a sophisticated analysis of organizational psychology. They simply know they went from being a top 25 offense to being one of, if not, THE worst offenses in cfb almost overnight. They know the new OC is making almost 2 million per year, more money than most will see in a lifetime, and they know this knew OC tossed every offensive concept that worked for the last two years in the garbage. And because the coach has failed to do his job well, they don't believe in him.

But now the players are being told that its all THEIR fault the OC is failing. When the OC puts them in condensed sets that results in extra defenders in the box, it's the players fault. When after five games he finally changes the offense to bring back some concepts that worked last year, they saw the offense produce again. But then even after the fleeting success, the OC went right back to the lack of spacing and condensed sets after TVD got injured. To no one's surprise, the offense went back to being garbage. But some fans insist the offensive woes are just a result of toxic players.

And the players see Cristobal bring his new S&C coach with a handlebar mustache, and they hear that Oregon players got injured at an alarming rate. They know those injuries can end careers. Then they see their friends on the team blowing out knees and ACLs. Maybe it's bad luck and has nothing to do with the new trainer. Bad luck at Oregon, and more bad luck at UM. Sheer coincidence.
But athletes are a superstitious lot, fair or unfair, they are going to associate the new coach with career ending injuries. So players worrying about their own health and careers is also now considered toxic.

Fans are saying that if only the players believed more in their coaches, we wouldn't be going into our third game without a touchdown. That lack of belief is creating a "toxic culture.". It seems our fanbase thinks players need to have blind faith in the coaches and the coaches shouldnt need to earn trust or respect.

Fact is most fans don't really want leaders on the team , they want lemmings.

All around cfb we see coaches who took over programs that were far worse, yet are succeeding in their first season. But UM fans start doing mental gymnastics to rationalize it- oh, you see those programs don't have has many S Fl players. It's the high schools in S fl that breed softness. UM is unique in cfb - no other university has to deal with bad high school cultures like us. And then it's the junior high schools fault. And then it's the parents who don't teach loyalty and toughness. The excuses for bad coaching never stop.

Got no issues with anything you said there 👍

Not only the Gattis hire...but the Steele and Addae hires as well. Georgia and Michigan didn't flinch when they lost those two...which makes Mario's hiring of staff that much more troubling. Steele literally came out of retirement too boot, and is nothing more than a journeyman. I like Mario...he certainly wasn't my 1st choice, but I'm willing to give him time. But what I've seen this yr from his staff is lower than mediocrity. We have absolutely no business being in the position we're in....None.
Mario was my first choice and I believe he can fix things but he drop the ball with the coordinators.

Harbaugh also excelled at the highest possible level and built programs

He has a lot more credibility than Mario

Of course culture matters. But this is the same team that was better last year under a laughable head coach

Not sure why we still need to keep bringing this up
Exactly.

Some of the quotes from that article also mentioned how Gattis caused a divide amongst the coaches on that staff. So the same article showing how much culture matters also portrays Gattis as being horrible for the culture of last years team. Might solve why this years team has fallen off so much.

I sure hope so....I like Mario. I've wanted every UM coach from Coker too Diaz to succeed. But it's highly obvious that he needs to adjust. I'm still perplexed how you can hire an entire Offensive staff, before hiring an OC....That makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm well aware he can recruit...and I'm well aware he's a Great person who Bleeds Orange & Green, but at 8 million a yr, (twice as much as any coach in UM History) and a staff that makes wayyyy more than any staff here ever did, I don't think we got our money's worth this yr. A 13-14 million dollar a yr staff can't bust out with a measly 5-6 win season

In hindsight it may be as simple as Mario keeping the chain and the Rings and slowly weaning the team away from it as his players came on board.

It’s on the player but when it becomes a trend it’s on the coach to get that player out the game til he understands the assignment.
Yes and no. In some cases there have been some poor personnel decisions that are 100% bad decision on the coaches. I was literally screaming at a couple in the stands Sat night. Putting Garcia in that spot where he threw the pick was as dumb as it gets as an example.

But Mario has also been put in a few spots this season where 1. A unit is so **** poor thin due to lack of talent or injuries that they had not much choice but to trot out a player making the occasional mistake and 2. Where a player has not earned playing time for certain reasons and he had to choose between playing someone making mistakes or awarding someone PT that they didn’t deserve which would send a message counter to what he is trying to build behind the scenes.

It’s not always black and white.

Ehhh, gotta disagree w/ u on this one, brotha.

For the chit Richt gets, a 50% Richt was the best coach we had since Butch. For all the shenanigans that Golden left this program in after he was sour he didn’t the PSU job, Richt single handily turned this program around. Was it to complete standards? No, but Richt undid a lot of the chit Golden instilled. Richt was 26-13 here. Not a great record, but roughly around 9-4, which was a 2 game win & 2 game loss improvement from Randy, & Golden who avg. 7-5.

For the all the good Richt did 3 yrs, Manny literally reversed it in 3 yrs. Some of r u having this nostalgic moment b/c we scored more under Manny + Lashlee, but we became extremely undisciplined in all phases of the game which is y we have record setting marks under him. It’s also y every single one of his recruits sans Greg have been **** poor b/c his evals were **** poor.
Don’t think people realize richt had us on a 15 game win streak at one point and that was the longest streak in cfb at the time. 15 straight wins **** when most years we struggle to get 2 in a row. Dude had them at #2 in the country. And that 2 week stretch of back to back prime time games vs vt and nd gave everybody a glimpse of what It could be if they start winning again

It's not a buzzword...

But it is a crutch that you guys are hanging onto for dear life without realizing you're already exhausting all your excuses in year 1...

However, it will definitely make for very creative & entertaining excuse making in the future & that's always something to look forward to.
The bolded is why they will continue get trolled with the C U L C H A schtick.

When you take a way the admin excuse, the money in the program excuse, Well...culture is all thats left
