Cristobal - offensive side of the ball

I just hate how Lashlee goes into a vanilla shell when things matter the most. I don’t like his lack of a fully fleshed out, drop back short passing game. He also doesn’t use his variety of run plays enough and is too slow to adjust to problems (RT vs Bama).

Lashlee can walk as far as I’m concerned. If he fixed those problems, I would feel a lot better about keeping him. He relies on rpo too much and a well coached defense can bait you into bad decisions.

I would like him to speed up the drop back passing game too. I keep going back to LSU -Auburn in 2019 because of how Joe Brady lead his offense to a tough road win over a defense that was beating his offensive line. LSU ran a high octane record breaking downfield attack against most opponents that season. They went to Auburn and the defensive line was kicking their *** from the first series, sacking and pressuring Burrow early. Lesser coordinators like Richt or Lashlee would have been slow, stubborn and gotten their team beaten by 17. Then make excuses about execution and how Auburn is such a tough place to win. Brady attacked the hash area where the strong safety was playing off coverage, which most teams won’t do. He also called quick breaking plays that allowed Burrows to throw DROP BACK passes in UNDER 2 seconds. He wasn’t getting sacked waiting for guys. His offense always gave him a safe throw and multiple quick options IMMEDIATELY.

We have never seen anything close to resembling that from Lashlee. If a guy like Brady was our coordinator, Alabama game would not have been a complete blood bath. I think Mario can do better if he is the guy.
If you think Lashlee’s offense is vanilla, you are going to HATE Mario’s offense.

The biggest problem I have with Mario is his record vs bad teams. He losses games he should win easily from a talent standpoint.

Isnt that what we’ve been dealing with for a long time?

That is my only concern with Mario but it’s a huge one.

You should be a lot more concerned about that 94th ranked defense he has.

So you have all this talent brought in, the result is 94th? Huh?

Them being ranked 3rd is confusing in some way or another due to that schedule I suppose

A defense that they protect by running the football alot and shortening games if he has his way.

Lashlee is not that good, brother.

I said it prior to him being hired...and I was right. Better than Enos...better than a lot of our OCs over the past 20 years, but he's mid.
He's not great and I wasn't suggesting we can't do better, but the offense isn't why we're losing. I'm not bending over backwards advocating for Lashlee to stay, but looking at the bigger picture I can see value in not changing OC's as the offense isn't our problem.

We can win the Coastal next season, possibly the ACC with the current offense. We need a quick fix on D. You bring in a new OC with a different system you risk hitting the reset button on TVD's development as well as the efficiencyof the offense. That's all I'm saying.

I’d like to see us use that entire 490 million UHealth profit & bring in both. We da U baby. Swag Alert!

Where is this “conservative offensive philosophy” narrative coming from?

Joe Moorhead is a top 3 OC in CFB, arguably the best. Go look at his offenses at PSU. Better yet, go look at his offenses at Fordham where he had a 1000 yard rusher and 2 1000 yard receivers in 2012/2013. Guy is ridiculously good.

People referenced the article that said Mario held Herbert back in 2019 but only referenced his 1st and 2nd down passing play call rates as evidence of not being aggressive, it was 60/40 in favor of running the ball…

Go look at Lane’s 1st and 2nd down pass rates this year with a first round QB…he runs it 60% of the time on 1st AND 2nd down…not exactly aggressive based on advanced analytics but his offense is one of the best in the country.

If wanting to run the ball down your throat with a mauling OL is “conservative” that’s fine by me…frankly it’s something we’ve been missing considering the stud backs we produce…
Comes from thats what he has been from the time he has been a coach.

* Where are we getting this MAULING ol from exactly?. It will be a while before that gets fixed.

Lane Kiffin's offensive philosophy is in line with what we have and what we need. I have him firmly above Cristobal. Cristobal may be my 4th choice

It's amazing to me that people are wanting to turn down a Power 5 coach who has a 34-11 record at the school and consistently is hanging in the top 10.
Look at the last 5 hires - Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt, Diaz. 2 had HC experience and only 1 at the Power 5 level (also was half invested and still took us to ACC Champ game)

I'd be more concerned about Lane. Dude hasn't been at a school for more than 4 years. Really soured in year 3 and 4 at USC. Yes Lane is a hot commodity right now because of what he is doing this year.

IMO Cristobal is a better choice AND a safer choice because of his recruiting ability and ties to the school.
Lane 13-7 record at Ole Miss carries more weight than Mario 34-11 record (Oregon).

Lane plays in the toughest division in the NCAA. Last year was his first year at Ole Miss during the pandemic.

Finally, Lane has been on the rise since USC humbled him. He won conference titles at FAU and has Ole Miss top 12 in the country.

Overall record:
Lane: 5 -15 (NFL), 74 - 41 (NCAA)
Mario: 61-58 (NCAA)

Conference USA record:
Lane (FAU): 26-13 (18-6)
Mario (FIU): 27-47 (20-26)

Imo if you’re asking a coach to fundamentally change something about his style, his regime is already starting on shaky ground.

Do you realize that doing what he did is an intentional grounding and would have also ended the game?.... AGAIN because TVD didn't and probably wasn't taught the rules.

ACC officials ****ed it up and didn't call ING when it should have been thus resulting in a 10 second runoff anyways
TVD knew the rule. When he looked up the play clock said 3 seconds. so he spiked it. Just one of those things...

I wouldn't exactly leave Lashlee on the tarmac and I won't have security escort him off campus, but he'd be given his handshake and dismissal, too.

The whole operation stinks...from James to Diaz to DiMare to L...and that seeps down to assistants, too. Everyone needs to get the steppin'.

Also playing against the worst power 5 conference and athletes. 1 thing alot of posters fail to mention
This is what concerns me with the Columbus Crew leading this. I doubt they've dug deep enough on this to see that Mario is leading an upper tier power 5 roster against a group of 5 conference and still not beating them like the talent differential suggests he should. The Pac-12 north is worse than the the Coastal the year Pitt finished 7-7 and won the division.
