Is that Josh Pate guy saying Oregon is a better equipped to win a national title or better equipped to be a winning program? Big difference. If hes saying they are better equipped to win a national title, I disagree because they have never done it. **** I think the Oregon team that lost the national title to Auburn is better than this one. It hasnt been proven that you can win a national title at Oregon. (which is why I think Lane leaves Ole Miss after this season and why im shocked Jimbo isnt considering LSU. Hes not winning a title at TAMU. He can win one at LSU.)

As long as Mario wins the Pac-12 every so often, wins 10 games and keep Oregon in the hunt, I think that fanbase will be happy. Even if they never win the title. If he is satisfied with that outcome, I think he should stay at Oregon. But if he ever wants to win the national title and have a real shot at doing it..He has to seriously consider us. We have won a national title at this school with 4 different coaches since we won our first one in 83'. In the modern era I dont think any other program can say that. That shows me a program that is built from the ground to win a national title if you bring in the right coach. Mario can get it done here. Now if he doesnt want the challenge? Fair enough. But winning a national title at UM holds FAR more weight in college football than winning one at Oregon.

No that fanbase wont. There is already a faction of that fans that doesnt like his game coaching and the losses to the teams they should beat. You have to remember if you have a lot of resources people have a lot of expectations. Oregon fans expect more than you may think in my opinion.

Why, Fin? Anytime you hire a coach in any sport, you have a #1 target that you want to say yes and if they say no then you move on.

This is no different with Mario. He’s the #1 target. If he passes, you move on.

At the very least, Mario knows he was the #1 target, unlike in previous years.

You then move on to whoever is in the plans next.
The problem with that theory is you might THINK you have a slam dunk #1, until you interview 5 or 6 other people and realize your slam dunk #1 comes in 4th or 5th place after doing your due diligence.

He Won 2 NCs as a player..and 1 as an Asst.Coach at UM...he's well aware of what can be done here...

I know you are somewhat joking but the offensive linemen that we need for us to truly be competitive the way we want to be, they ain't in Miami lol.

Pate is one of the most objective talking heads out there. Until we prove him and pretty much everyone else wrong, I’m in the same boat as him. Until we show we are willing to actually spend all of this money that we supposedly have & keep talking about, it’s just that...talk.

also the jets aren't just for recruiting for his staff im sure. either way, I think the boosters are confident they can get him but have zero clue on if **** actually come. if it comes down to matching everything Oregon is giving him then good luck. its why I ask for the backup plan

When you have a #1 guy you pretty much already know everything about him.

You don’t think they already know everything about Mario? No interview is going to change their minds.

Preach
UM fans will get mad at all of these people over the next month or so saying we can’t compete financially etc. Well, prove them wrong or stfu cause that is what we have been for the last 20 years so why would anyone think anything different until proven otherwise?
this. it doenst matter if you have 200 billion to spend if you never spend it

Oregon couldn’t keep Willie Taggart.

The biggest concern with Mario isn’t the facilities. It’s the players he recruited. He wants to coach them and believes he can win big. That’s what we need to overcome.
Beyond that, Nike and Phil knight are making it difficult. When it’s all said and done we might be back w the swoosh.

or maybe just maybe we are on the cutting edge and following programs like Bama and Indiana in basketball into the future.

Stop yelling at clouds asshat.
Lol yeah our program just screams cutting edge, **** face

Exactly. If only we can remember a time we jumped at the coach we just knew was the right guy without even considering anyone else. When was that? Oh yeah, the hiring of Manny Diaz.

His mom was recently in the hospital. Having a procedure, not sure of what for (elective or needed). Mario was here for it, had a friend tracking flights from there to here. A private plan came in during that time. I want to say it was after the Michigan State game.

Did you just intimate that Mario flew all the way to Miami for his mama's nose job?

Well, then...

He comin.

The obvious question in the minds of most is can we return to the force we were back then. And can Mario lead us there?

The jury is still out for me - as it would be for any HC we might hire - but I’m be more than willing to let him prove he’s the man to get it done.

You know this as well as anyone and I’ve said it many times, we can’t sneak up on anyone anymore. Mario, or any new HC for that matter, can’t be successful with current state of affairs. It’s going to take a huge commitment from the powers that be to help the new HC be successful.

Won’t need as many private jets when the recruits live 5 miles from the crib

Kind of a joke, maybe? But actually accurate. I'd guess Oregon coaches need to travel at least 3x-5x miles a year to recruit vs. Miami. The cost of providing jets to Miami coaches would be just a fraction. Especially since said jets are already owned by boosters. You're basically just talking about fuel, maintenance and crew.

no. we will never be what we were. the old dudes have to accept that. we can be competitive though.

I know we all have Diaz/Blake PTSD but this is completely different situation. Not even apples & oranges. More like watermelons vs grapes.

which booster cares enough to donate their PJ? also, lets hold off on that attorney who may or may. not be in some Miami scam

No offense, but this is stupid. Manny was a first time coach that was about to start at Temple.

Mario is the guy at a playoff caliber beast of a program who on paper, is way, way over our heads.

So if Miami hired Nick Saban today it would be a mistake? Stop trying to avoid success. Or take a lesson from this conversation.

So tell me then, what is it about Mario that makes you believe he is a can't miss coach? I just don't see that. What O will he run here? What's his D going to look like? I need answers, not just people assuming he'd kill it here because he can recruit well.

Don't get me wrong, we need improvement on the lines and I think he can bring that. However, I am not convinced he is some perfect candidate that is so much better than everyone else that we shouldn't even bother checking out other coaches.
