Criminoles vs Nc State

I don’t like targeting, but if we’re going by the rules, that’s clearly a penalty. As dumb as it truly is, you cannot hit the QB in the helmet like that period. I agree it’s a dumb rule and probably wouldn’t be called against a runner/receiver, but the players should know you need to stay away from a QB’s helmet with all these rules now.

This FSU team has absolutely no discipline

That wasn't the QB..it was a WR.

Jimbo is getting out coached so far by the NC State coach.

What's new? Also NC St is a decent team . Just like Duke , just like UVA , just like Wake ect. That is the strength of the league this season we don't have any bad teams besides Cuse. Blackman is a good QB but he isn't good enough for FSU to beat Clemson or us .

Okay, but is the passer not considered a defenseless player by default? I’m fairly certain that’s the rule, but I honestly don’t care enough to look through the rule book. If I’m proven wrong, so be it lol

when you are in the act of throwing, you're a defenseless player.

the call was still weak though

we better feast on that OL, I think they will try and establish the run against us first. Just worried about our qb play

Right, that’s what I was thinking. I fully agree though, the rule has gotten out of hand. And players should not be ejected, at least not on their first flag. Should be like other calls where it’s two and you’re out, if any ejection at all.

No you are right. That's why it's called roughing "the passer." Doesn't matter who it is, if they're in a throwing motion when you hit them, they're designated "the passer" and they're automatically considered to be a defenseless player. Forcible contact to the helmet or neck area is all you need for a targetting call and clearly that's what happened during the play.

Still wish there were two levels to the call with differing consequences, like the NBA's flagrant 1 and 2 penalties

Correct call. Bad rule. It should be a penalty for unnecessary roughness/hands to face, but not an ejection. Targeting rule, while it sucks from a fans perspective, is generally a good thing. But this is too far.
