Corey Heatherman revisited..

It's a combination of many things. Our personnel doesn't match the system like it did last year: Bain was literally born to play in the Tite Front.

The personnel is not as talented even at positions that they do match (ie Blount

There is far more tape on his system now after not only a season at UM but the whole playoff run which added a 1/3rd season. He was a DC for one season the year prior to coming here at Minnesota, which given the lack of talent there was probably not so great to use.

The injuries to the secondary, while not being a top reason, are still a reason.

He’s pretty predictable by the numbers. There’s definitely a book on him now .

They passed on first down like ten times in a row and we looked shocked every time

He needs to go watch our 2017 defense and copy it - we have the talent to be at least that good, but the scheme has to be way more aggressive; we need to live and die on creating chaos, which we absolutely are not doing at all right now.
I feel like I’m watching manny with the late blitzes by db’s. Sometimes we time them up perfectly and others it’s late as **** and useless.

1. The injuries are a bigger reason than you think losing OJ and Antoine is massive. Now we have to play 27, 0, 2, and 24 WAY more than we should. A defensive backfield of Poyser, Dunnigan, Bryce, Lucas, OJ, and Antoine beats the **** out of 0, 27, 2, and 24.

2. 9 and 1 in coverage is a BIG problem. OC’s are targeting them in the passing game even on “running downs” because it’s easy

3. The missed tackles. 2nd and 8’s are 2nd and 3’s because the first guy on the perimeter isn’t making the play.

^^^^ those are the main issues with the defense

OCs are targeting 25 and 7 in coverage way more than the linebackers

Country C3 fraud gawd. Signs were there last year, but Bain and Mesi was winning asap so the ball had to be gone. If he don’t switch it up, Mario needs to slide on him tbh.

I don’t know if he’s good, bad, or drunk. But, the data says he is playing entirely too much Cover 3. And, while the narrative seems to be that ol’ salty Petrino put on a master class tonight, what is the evidence? He threw to his TE and backs.

Nothing crazy or fancy. He identified our weaknesses - LBs in coverage, a Frosh safety who is getting crazy snaps but sometimes confused, late breaking safeties, Corners who intentionally bail into the ether - and just called plays for them. What he did really was a lesson in self-discipline. Those Safety blitzes are stale. The simulated pressure is predictable. And, that QB had the night of his life because of us; not himself.

Db injuries? What does he need, an All Pro DBackfield? UNC’s QB had almost 3x the incompletions against Syracuse. How many of Cuse’s defenders see the field in our jerseys?
