It’s fairly obvious at this point, even for the doubters out there, that the school is finally going to overhaul the Athletic Department. Canning Blake is a big move.

Additionally, this all but spells the end of Manny Díaz. No new AD is going to come in and let him stick around.

Final note, Mario Cristobal was not going to entertain the idea of this job with Blake hanging around. Removing James is a big step towards making a run at Cristobal.

Idk why Mario would leave Oregon. Even with a new AD, he has plenty of resources at Oregon with less scrutiny and lower expectations.

I hope it happens but I can't see why anyone would make that leap right now just as a reality
No where around the country is like Miami. And Miami is home for Cristobal. I’ve sacrificed a lot in my career moving around a lot and no matter the amount of money I make i rather take a pay cut and be home.

It’s not just a program v. program comparison. It’s well known that his wife and family want to be here in Miami. Their entire family is down here. Additionally, Mario’s always wanted this job and he interviewed back in 2010 and 2015. He was ready to make a run at it in 2018 until Blake pulled the trigger on Manny.

Now, he has all the leverage. It is his job for the taking if he wants it. Bring in Alonzo in some role and a solid AD like Jurich or even Gino T and it’ll send a message that we’re committed to winning.

Highsmith has the makings of a good AD. As Ive read, he was a solid NFL executive.

Right/wrong?

Whats he know about hiring a basketball coach? Or fighting off the Dimare clan to fire the baseball coach and hire a new one. We need someone with pelts on the wall that can't be challenged because of what they've done before.

There are only a couple of jobs he'd leave for according to the rumors and ours is one of them.

well that's promising

I'll gladly take Mario

him or Dan Lanning which is unpopular and the dude has no real ties here but I think he will be an awesome HC wherever he ends up

Do you see the esteem we hold JJ with in Miami? I think deep down Mario wants that. Who cares if the Oregon faithful like you. Miami is home and if he can bring us back to prominence, he’s a **** folk hero. Odds are stacked against him due to the admin, but man the ceiling is high and the rewards are greater here than anywhere else.

No one is making the leap. I think the consensus view is UM will try to make the job as attractive as possible (firing James, making a commitment to sports, large budget, etc) and make an above market offer to Cristobal. Ball is in his court. Many reasons to say no. If he declines, UM will move to other candidates (my guess is Stoops would be #1).

Thing to keep in mind for Mario is though is UM is going to try and give him everything he could possibly want and a clean slate to rebuild the program. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity as I don't think we'll ever see the school push reset and clean out the Athletic Dept. ever again.

Imma just listen to @Cribby and @****-oops I mean @Brooklyndee
I’d say 50-50 but it’s very appealing when you see your alma mater going in a direction you’ve never see them go before. He’ll be given more ammo than any coach in this schools history. Winning at Oregon is cute and all but winning at Miami is just different. He has an opportunity to do something way bigger than win. This is legacy ****.

This is the only reason I believe the University drops hella bags for Mario. If successful, you're talking about not having to worry about who the Miami head coach will be for 25+ years. This ain't Lane hoping program to program. This ain't Saban testing out the waters pre-Bama. This ain't Urban running into "health problems" at multiple universities. Only way Mario leaves is for an NFL role and even then...not sure he leaves.

Long term investment that could have a huge payoff.

In your view who are the legitimate candidates? I assume Mario would be one in your view.
