Connecting the Dots

I’d say 50-50 but it’s very appealing when you see your alma mater going in a direction you’ve never see them go before. He’ll be given more ammo than any coach in this schools history. Winning at Oregon is cute and all but winning at Miami is just different. He has an opportunity to do something way bigger than win. This is legacy ****.
In Oregon, you get VIP status. In Miami, you can achieve legend status. Winning here means more and you’ll be treated like a king the rest of your days.

Also Tom Jurich me pls!!

he's the only 1, 2, and 3 until he says no. lol
Then nothing has changed and we're doing it backwards. When Richt came available that is the only one Blake wanted. When Richt retired, Manny is who Blake wanted. So instead of completely doing the opposite, allegedly we're gonna go through the same faulty process and pretend coaching hires aren't at best 50/50 anyway. Lets zero in one guy and instead of exploring all options and then coming to a decision. I do like how people think Blake James is the idiot but are willing to follow the same path he took into getting himself fired.

@Sebastianspipe @JayCane20 @Brooklyndee @Cribby can tell you Mario is already vetted. there was a package to hire him last time and Blake went off script to hire the superfan.

Who cares about vetting Mario? What about all the other candidates who might be interested? Mario or bust is simply bad process. Make the job as attractive as possible and pick 5+ guys and take it from there.

Idk why Mario would leave Oregon. Even with a new AD, he has plenty of resources at Oregon with less scrutiny and lower expectations.

I hope it happens but I can't see why anyone would make that leap right now just as a reality
If USC hires a competent HC Mario’s free ride to the Rose Bowl is over…would be an excellent time for him to leave..

Recruiting and winning with a USC under a new HC is gonna get a lot harder..

I’d prefer Mario stubbing his toe one more game. That qb is capable of going off the rails any game ( in a bad way).
Agree. If he doesn't make the CFP we can make a run for him pre-early signing period

There are probably less than 7 really good experienced AD candidates in the country right now.

Not sure we’re going to be able to pull one of them. If we can, awesome. I’m all for it.

If not, experience is far less important than competence.
You can find more than 7 ADs who are competent. There are plenty of healthy athletic programs. Hiring Alonzo doesn't signal you're serious about anything. It signals Miami is up to their regular bull**** again. If Alonzo wants to be an AD so bad he can be an established AD's deputy director of athletics.

How about remove if. Hire someone who we know knows.
Point taken.

I'm ASSUMING Miami's marginal at best BOT will become informed about Highsmith from the right people who know.

IF he isn't a leader with well rounded skillsets, hire someone else.

Jurich, Luck, etc... **** I'd talk to Polian or Kirwin.

Or we can just hire a sitting AD with a proven track record of hiring good coaches. They do exist. Everybody wants to make every thing so **** hard and give a position to former UM guys with no experience doing the job. As if we haven't seen enough of that when hiring coaches with UM ties. From the HC to assistants. Jurich doesn't have a job, hire him. Or find an AD with a job and pay him to come reshape the athletic department. But nah, it is better to take a chance on the guy who has never done it because we recognize the name.
I don't know the first thing about hiring an AD, but if people think the HC job at Miami isn't attractive - you'd have to think the AD role is even less attractive.

This is a private school - you're not going to have that huge state funding to play with.

Define competent?

8-4?

Sure.

There are plenty of ADs who can hire 8-4 coaches and keep the school out of NCAA probation.

There are not plenty of established ADs who can run a championship department in revenue generating sports. That is just plain false.

our budget is over 100 million. it is a big attractive job. period. maybe not state level sec but bigger than tons of schools including big states

Highsmith has the makings of a good AD. As Ive read, he was a solid NFL executive.

Right/wrong?

I believe Alonzo has some really good ideas, and he understands what 'big time college football' is at the highest level. He's been all around the country and seen the commitment that other 'lesser' programs have made. He's collected knowledge from many different people

This wouldn't just be a job for him

Cristobal was vetted by Miami in 2010 and 2015. There were moves to bring him in 2018, and he was very interested. He’s kept his connections with former players and knows the landscape down here very well. If he wants this job we’d conclude the search pretty quickly and he’d be inked to a deal in 48 hours at most. IF (and it’s a big IF) he was interested he wouldn’t be hired until January probably. Could also decide to leave Oregon before their bowl game. Hard to say but the point is that he’s a real candidate and is #1 on the list.

No one expects the ADs at every school to hire coaches that will come in and win championships. Plenty of things beyond the coach determine who is capable of winning it all. More than 7 ADs who are currently employed make solid coaching hires across their sports.

Yurachek got the Arkansas job in 2017. Since then he's hired Eric Musselman who made an elite 8 in his first full season and Sam Pittman who is 7-3 in year 2 in the SEC West. Yurachek was second in command at Houston beforehand. So competency and experience is all around. Just gotta look for it and not default to the nearest Miami guy.

Whose list? We don't have an AD yet. Why is there even a list with coaches being ranked on it?
