Connecting the Dots

I’d say 50-50 but it’s very appealing when you see your alma mater going in a direction you’ve never see them go before. He’ll be given more ammo than any coach in this schools history. Winning at Oregon is cute and all but winning at Miami is just different. He has an opportunity to do something way bigger than win. This is legacy ****.
he is beloved by former players and local coaches, his wife wants back home, he worships jimmy Johnson, etc
only thing is he doesnt want to leave a playoff team if the school isn't all in. This was a VERY positive step.

Whats he know about hiring a basketball coach? Or fighting off the Dimare clan to fire the baseball coach and hire a new one. We need someone with pelts on the wall that can't be challenged because of what they've done before.

Not many AD’s have the first clue about how to hire a coach… regardless of the sport.

Alonzo is a sports management guy… who has worked at the highest level of sports management in the world (the NFL).

There is no “being a good AD” skill. It’s a management position that requires deep knowledge of sports. Alonzo certainly has a skill set that CAN equate to success as an AD.

I think Alonzo is brought in for a football specific position… but considering most ADs are used car salesmen (fundraisers) or attorneys who can’t make a living practicing law… I wouldn’t say it is unreasonable to consider him for the AD position.

If he knows leadership, its all he needs.

This is the only reason I believe the University drops hella bags for Mario. If successful, you're talking about not having to worry about who the Miami head coach will be for 25+ years. This ain't Lane hoping program to program. This ain't Saban testing out the waters pre-Bama. This ain't Urban running into "health problems" at multiple universities. Only way Mario leaves is for an NFL role and even then...not sure he leaves.

Long term investment that could have a huge payoff.
I agree! Lawwwwwwwwd I’m scared to death

He can literally create his own version on The U documentary.

Or we can just hire a sitting AD with a proven track record of hiring good coaches. They do exist. Everybody wants to make every thing so **** hard and give a position to former UM guys with no experience doing the job. As if we haven't seen enough of that when hiring coaches with UM ties. From the HC to assistants. Jurich doesn't have a job, hire him. Or find an AD with a job and pay him to come reshape the athletic department. But nah, it is better to take a chance on the guy who has never done it because we recognize the name.

There are probably less than 7 really good experienced AD candidates in the country right now.

Not sure we’re going to be able to pull one of them. If we can, awesome. I’m all for it.

If not, experience is far less important than competence.
