MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

??? It is all driven what advertisers are willing to pay for commercial time. High visibility = high demand = $$ value. The SEC and Big 10 have the best products and command more $$ for commercial spots and are therefore able to offer higher dollar media contracts to their conferences. Why should a profitable company be forced to share profits with a less profitable company? The ENTIRE sports industry changed THE VERY DAY ESPN LAUNCHED IN 1979 and began to pay for content to broadcast. Schools that WANT big time media deals ALSO must invest in big time NIL and coaching staff + facilities. Programs that don't want to have no fundamental RIGHT to receive revenue generated BY those that invest. You're asking for SOCIALISM in a business environment that is driven by investment. Either invest and participate or don't.

Public airing of grievances AGAINST THE ACC.

Being against a provision in a bill by a third party (Congress) is not the same thing as publicly criticizing and going to court against your own conference.

SEMANTICS. Pretzel yourself up

Ftr- the CORRECT answer is it never mattered. Closed mouths don’t get fed. What we are doing NOW is the right thing. The B1G doesn’t care about anything BUT $$$. Force the issue Cuban Coke Joe- stick our SoFla LAWYERS on the case

While I agree with your premise that the B1G is going to do what's best for them $$$, I disagree that's is just semantics that airing grievances against your own partner conference publicly and suing them is the same thing as lobbying behind the scenes for Congress not to pass a provision in a bill that hurts your school long term. That's a meaningful difference. I'm not sure either one would keep you out of a conference. But if one of them did, it would definitely be the former.

You're right that we absolutely are now publicly going against our conference. The war moved from cold to hot when Joe E went on Joe Rose 2 months ago. However how FSU conducted themselves in suing the ACC absolutely mattered and it substantially harmed their chances of getting an invitation there.

Only big domino missing is Duke (from the ACC teams). Think Louisville and SMU might try to head for B12 if ACC completely falls apart.

If it becomes a 20 team cap, I don't see the B1G getting another DMV area school that doesn't add that much more value to the conference that rekindling an old ACC rivalry would provide. If it's going to be Miami + someone else other than Notre Dame, I see the B1G going after Georgia Tech and just encroaching as much into SEC territory as they can.

I could see the B1G going that route and having the schedule for GT and Miami being such that they always have 6-7 "home" games a year with one of those games being a neutral site at Mercedes Benz and at either stadium in Orlando and Tampa. Starting off the season in Weeks 0-2 and having a Georgia Tech/Michigan and a Miami/Nebraska game far outweighs whatever Virginia would bring in. You would see B1G ads and billboards all over SEC country.

Which leads me to my next point. Unless the UNC Board of Governors and the NC state government gets concessions from the SEC to move their baseball and basketball tournaments to North Carolina, they're not gonna let UNC leave the ACC. In my opinion, the powers that be in North Carolina do not care one way or another of what happens to the ACC. All they care about is the tourism dollars the state gets from the baseball and basketball tournaments. The ACC Basketball tournament is pretty much a state holiday for North Carolina. But if they can trade the ACC fanbase tourism dollars for the SEC fanbase tourism dollars, they will do that in a heartbeat.

Getting Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, etc. in the basketball tournament, and Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia in the baseball tournament far exceeds anything the ACC would provide for ticket sales and ad revenue. It's why the UNC Board of Governors and the state government passed legislation to not allow UNC-Chapel Hill to unilaterally leave the ACC for the SEC or B1G. They signaled to those conferences that they will have to pay up for UNC.

Last year you said BAD PUBLIC AIRING OF GRIEVANCES turns off B1G.

Miami is now PUBLICALLY AIRING GRIEVANCES.

Were you lying THEN or lying NOW?
You knew **** well certain posters would tag something from years ago, like they weren’t wrong 15 other times …

They just can’t help themselves
