I know it's not popular on here. But I prefer this too. The idea 24 will diminish interest in the regular season is crazy to me. While I agree it will make the ACCCG more or less irrelevant, Canes fans shouldn't care at all about that. The NCAA Basketball Tournament, which has 64 teams, has made that sport much more interesting to watch.
The document stated that 2025 would’ve had 7 SEC teams, 6 Big Ten, 5 Big 12, three Acc, Notre dame, and two group of 6 teams. Only automatic qualifier would’ve been for the G6.
There are problems that arise on the backend like why is Iowa’s 8-4 better than anyone of SMU’s, Wake Forrest’s, or Pitt’s 8-4 given tha Iowa scheduled 2 out of conference cupcakes and one XII team while SMU had two XII opponents and Pitt played eleven p4+ND teams? Moreover, I feel like any of these teams in the playoffs alongside UVA, North Texas, Arizona, etc would’ve been unnecessarily included.
I dislike the first round bye for eight teams. I don’t know if it disvalues the regular season, but it seems like an odd aggregation for vs Alabama, Miami vs Iowa, Notre dame vs Arizona, etc matchups in the playoffs. A much better option would be to require 2 OOC p4 matchups from every team in the p4.
Now, add Texas, Utah, BYU, and notre dame to last year’s playoff dozen— and I see no major drop off compared with how eight more than that would dilute the field.
This appears to be the last year of twelve no matter what; the B1G stated they would prefer ‘27 & ‘28 be sixteen teams then ‘29 thru ‘31 expand to 24.
Also, the fight and hotel have always been on the school, no?
I believe they’re referring to unofficial visits; which was supposed to be on the recruits’ dime.
