It could also mean Greenville, SC.

You’re only assuming it means Gainesville at all!

Or just let them think you mean Gainesville, GA. It's the internet, you can be anyone, anywhere. For instance, I'm about to dock my yacht at Marina Ibiza, but my IP location is still South Florida.
I will send my Chief Henchmen to greet you and ensure your stay is without difficulties.

Brilliant actually. Or at least they [B1G] think it is.

ELIMINATES conference expansion pressure. I believe B1G is actually in weak long term positioning as they are currently rostered.

You know who this benefits?

Yormark the Destroyer. It gives him manuever space and time.

And given both, he's 10x the executive his opponents are.

I hope you're right because it would be the first round of realignment that gave rivalry games a huge consideration.

Ask Texas vs. Texas A&M prior to Texas joining the SEC. Kansas vs. Missouri. Nebraska vs. Oklahoma. Nebraska vs. Colorado. USC & UCLA vs. Stanford & Cal.

I mean, we can all HOPE it doesn't affect the Miami-FSU rivalry, but we are to expect that networks are going to all of a sudden determine rivalries are worth saving? Is Florida coming back on a yearly basis too? Seems to be a lot of money being missed out on only playing that game a couple of times a decade.

If Miami goes B1G and FSU goes SEC, I'm afraid the best it will be is as a part-time series like the "treasured" rivalries listed above have become.
Miami-FSU is a name rivalry, but when was the last time the game was meaningful on a national scale? When was the last time the game meant anything other than to one another?

The game hasn’t been the Game of the Century in nearly a quarter century.

The last time both teams were ranked the top 10 when they played was 2004.

Miami needs to get out of the ACC and into either the SEC or more likely the Big Ten. I would sacrifice playing FSU every season if I had to choose between one of the P2 conferences or playing FSU annually. No question.

Every season we stay in the ACC is another season on the outside looking into the future of college football.

What I highlighted is the whole point of a rivalry. Yes, there will be years where there is no national significance to the game, but it is hugely important to both fanbases. You can say that about every rivalry. How many years during the Lloyd Carr-John Cooper years did the Michigan-Ohio State mean anything on a national level?

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Miami should stay in the ACC if they can get in the P2 for its own survival. What I am saying is the season will lose a bit of its luster to me (and I think most Cane fans) if FSU is not on the schedule every year. There is one game that the Canes can point to that will guaranteed sell out every 2 years at home - FSU. That's it. They don't play Florida every year, they don't play ND every year.

I’m not arguing the importance of the rivalry to both teams and their fans. I too would miss playing Florida State every year if the future came to that conclusion. I’ve always wanted Miami and Florida State to play on the same weekend every year. We may be the lone big rivalry that doesn’t play at the same weekend every season. I’m probably wrong there, but you know what I mean.

And by the way, I wonder how many years during the Lloyd Carr-John Cooper years did the Michigan-Ohio State game decide the Big Ten championship? At the end of the season. I don’t think a Miami-Florida State game even meant anything to the ACC other than both team’s conference record. We never played them in the ACC title game. This is what the ACC wanted, but fate was not on their side.

But you never know. Maybe Miami joins the Big Ten without Florida State and we have annual games with Penn State, whom we have history with, or Ohio State, a limited history, or Michigan, with no meaningful history. Of course with Miami’s luck, the ‘mandated conference rivalry game’ will be Rutgers. A Big Least Throwback. Oh no!

We’ll see what the future holds.

I hear you, but I'm a traditionalist. I was a tween and teen in the '80's and every September was Florida, every October was FSU, and every November was ND (for the most part). 3 games that no matter the records were going to be electric to us in the crowd and would sell out. For **** near 40 years now, we lost 2 of them from the annual rotation, to lose FSU would really suck, but I would understand.

Too many games. 2 teams made it historic. 4 teams was still special. 28 teams? Let me know when that gets to the final 4 unless it is my team.

PS. Watching ND each week was boring with Al and his newest fashion look.

November 2, 2013 was the last time both FSU & Miami were ranked in the top 10 at time of match up; however, I agree w u.

Okay. AI gave me the wrong information. Or more likely I asked the wrong question. I tried again and got the 2013 game as the last time both teams were ranked in the top 10 at game time. 2004 was the last game prior to 2013.

I think my point still stands. Hope you’re doing well.
