MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

That is a B1G investment

looks like we're going to need every dollar of Dana White's donation now that he's a fan. Unless there are names that we don't know (I'm sure there are), I find it hard to believe that the Soffer's and the Mas bros can compete with this.

You're in North Florida, right?

We all know Holes up here would forget about FSU's rivalry with UM in a heartbeat when they'd be playing the likes of Bama, UGA, Auburn, LSU and other SEC heavyweights (all of which would bring a bunch of fan$ to Tally) on a regular basis. FSU folks would pound their chests in saying "forget Miami, they need us but we don't need them."

IOW, exactly what UF did about 40 years ago.

The SEC is gonna move to 9 conference games plus the SEC-B1G challenge which makes 10 set in stone — which equals 5 home games.

That leaves two open dates -- mostly filled by G5 schools that won't require a home-and-home agreements -- to ensure 7 home games for financial purposes.

Assuming we get invited to the B1G, UM will probably get an occasional SEC-B1G challenge game against FSU or UF.

But that will be about it
No, I am in North Georgia.

And maybe, maybe not. They aren’t guaranteed to get into the SEC, and the FSU/UM game might still bring more money than many of those games.

So Miami to the B1G then with an eventual ND?

Yeah, I think so.

A gutted ACC, the SEC going to 9 conference games and a "B1G-SEC challenge" series would really box in the Irish as far as scheduling goes.

Even with a 5- or 6-game "alliance" with the second-tier Big XII (or ACC were it to survive), ND would struggle to fill out anything close to a top-tier schedule.

Just don't see it. The SEC is going 8-for-8 when it comes to poaching the ACC.

That coast to coast travel really is an issue — and GT and Duke aren't gonna do anything to jeopardize their games with UGA and UNC (unlike FSU which would be fine with kicking the UM rivalry to the curb).

The other factor is keeping those long-time ACC members together (other than Lil Ol' Wake Forest) matters to those presidents. Just like it means a lot to the presidents at Vandy, Texas, UF, UGA and other SEC institutions to bring in schools that are well-respected in academic circles
The UM / FSU rivalry will continue as cross conference games with Miami in the Big and FSU in the SEC. Ratings monster game is too big a draw to networks to be eliminated. RIVALRY games are a huge consideration in realignment.

You could be spot on, but my guess is that the SEC-B1G matchups will rotate every two years, e.g:

2027: Miami @ FSU
2028: FSU @ Miami
2029: Miami @UF
2030: UF @ Miami
2031: Miami @ LSU
2032: LSU @ Miami

an so on ...

I do think the Google B1G-SEC Challenge is gonna be a ma$$ive hit financially and another reason to get a move on with the SEC and B1G cherry-picking the ACC

I hope you're right because it would be the first round of realignment that gave rivalry games a huge consideration.

Ask Texas vs. Texas A&M prior to Texas joining the SEC. Kansas vs. Missouri. Nebraska vs. Oklahoma. Nebraska vs. Colorado. USC & UCLA vs. Stanford & Cal.

I mean, we can all HOPE it doesn't affect the Miami-FSU rivalry, but we are to expect that networks are going to all of a sudden determine rivalries are worth saving? Is Florida coming back on a yearly basis too? Seems to be a lot of money being missed out on only playing that game a couple of times a decade.

If Miami goes B1G and FSU goes SEC, I'm afraid the best it will be is as a part-time series like the "treasured" rivalries listed above have become.
