Today the rules of football cater to offense.

The offenses spread out defenses to stretch pass zones and open running lanes.

Most conferences play a lot of spread O. The SEC is a dinosaur who is slowly going to change.

Teams who play run stuff D, like Bama have a hard time against spread.

Teams who are geared to defend pass heavy offense get bludgeoned by Power run teams like LSU and Wisconsin etc..

The new model of Championship defense is Opportunistic and creates turnovers.

Football is now 7 on 7 that's why the defenses of old look so magnificent especially now.

True, another issue is you can't hit anymore. Every big hit gets a targeting flag. It's kind of like when the NBA did away with hand checking. Points skyrocketed. Same is happening with football at all levels.

Lol

The 4-3 will work from now till the end of time. Just need to get to the QB. When u have the athlete Miami has access to- you can stop any offense just as long as Ofrio and Golden don't coach the D

When your leading NFL passers are both around 40 years old, and they are throwing TDs at an outrageous clip at that age, you have a problem.

As for the best defenses: defenses that can play base against all offenses are the defenses that excel.

But don't say it's alright to win by 24 points if you give up 450 yards. Doesn't matter if the game is changing, all that matters is hatred for everyone that doesn't give your life validation with a suffocating defence. If you're giving up more than 150 yards you're not playing old school Cane football, and life is meaningless.

THIS great thread, aggressive defense and high scoring offense wins games, this is a offensive league gentleman, if you cant stop the pass and create turnover you wont win

The athletes miami AND everyone else had access too. Its called the internet its hard to hide Talent now.

Yards do matter. But the suffocating bama defense gets shredded more often than not.

Turnovers stop the the, take points off the board and give the O the ball back.

Yeah...because Folden is the MASTER of the "aggressive defense."

Where do you come up with these "brilliant" thoughts?

Think outs a coincidence that the 01 Canes dominated when most teams play 2 back systems?

Three spread was designed to do what its doing.

Common **** sense

We just happen to have a defensive philosophy of hoping the other team screws up. Seems to me a base 4-3 that can generate pressure from the front 4 makes more sense than a base 3-4 where the only pressure generated is when we send 5. It hasn't worked yet, but dammit Al and Doh'Nofrio have their fingers crossed this year and their lucky rabbits feet in the back pocket...it's time has come???

That being said, were 3-0.

Go Canes!

4 of the top 10 teams are pro style. 5 if you consider ohio st pro style

If there was only a region that produced quick pass rushers, linebackers who could cover, hybrid safeties and ballhawking corners.

It's an interesting topic. Why do you think spread teams, even in the NFL, still need to be able to run the ball at the end of the season - during playoffs and championship ball?

the best defense to counter both offensive styles is the 4-3... really its a 4-2-5, The way bud foster and narduzzi/ dantoni run it, because your whip linebacker( cody grimm, jermain grace, denicos allen) is fast enough to cover and also physical in the run game.

no one breeds better athletes than florida for this type of defense.

its a shame that north east schools are running it better than Florida schools. **** shame.

while teams like this can be gashed by the run game from time to time. it usually stifles a lot of plays for loss and creates a lot of turnovers.

the 3-4 sucks if youre not in the north east and if its not a 1 gap aggressive blitzing scheme and even that puts too much pressure on players mentally.
