Comment from lsu 247 reporter on Raymond

If we hire Raymond as a DC (heck even as a DB coach), we better have someone else waiting in the wings to take his place. If he has any type of success, or is offered anything he considers better, he's going to bolt. Good guy, but he won't be here long if he comes imo.

Edit: Let me add, though, that the single life may serve as the "Big Joker" in this situation.

Not sure I'd want Raymond as Co-DC.... Cut the Co-DC altogether. Just hire a **** DC.

Sure seems to hurt Michigan State and TCU

How does the Co-DC work? I'm confused as to how you actually decide who calls the plays game day, what happens if they disagree with something, who decides on offering recruits, is it really 50-50 split? Not saying it wouldn't work, just confused as to how it works.
I don't know how it works everywhere, but at TCU, for instance, one DC will call the defensive front (blitzes/stunts/etc) and the other will call the secondary's coverage scheme behind it. It's an interesting way to go about it...to add another bit of nuance to it, the DC calling the coverages might call one coverage for one side of the formation and a different one on the other side, so you might have a hybrid man-zone coverage which makes pre-snap reads for the opposing QB an absolute bytch.

See this article that has, indeed, been posted here numerous times: Hard Knocks: Playing Defense With TCU?s Gary Patterson «

They don't actually operate independently. They signal the calls in separately, bc the fronts and coverages don't have to be attached. However, if they do any blitzes they need to be on the same page.

How have Raymond's secondaries performed, specifically once his recruits got PT? Seems like he didn't develop a lot of the NFL studs that we've seen come out of LSU. Does he have a previous track record of success coaching DBs?

Just to sown curiosity, who has Raymond developed

Have you seen LSU since 2012? The dude is the best db coach in CFB.

I've seen them plenty, but I usually like to get a sense of how coaches perform once they get guys that they actually recruited instead of inherited.

As much as I've seen them, I can't say I know who he recruited and has gotten PT and who he inherited from the previous DB coach.

i’m surprised people aren’t upset about Raymond being a possible DC but when a truly elite position coach like Kuligowski was thrown in the mix for that title all **** broke loose

There is no way Raymond should be DC over Kuli. No ******* way.

Wow this is bold for a guy who has never won any awards and has only had Tyrann Mathieu in his first year and Jalen Collins last year even drafted from his secondaries.

Reid was a first round pick I believe with the 49ers. There might be a couple guys better but he is at least top 5.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, LSU's passing defense, in terms of passing yds allowed, was ranked worse than Miami's this year. Not the only stat that matters, but it's out there.

As a DB coach sure, but nothing in his pedigree says he is ready to call defenses, let alone defenses at Miami.

I missed him but it was also in his first year. I will say he has 2 this year that are pretty good and will be drafted high in White and Mills. He is a good DB coach but I would be apprehensive as a DC over Kuli.

Wow he doesn't even remember his own players names! He has gotten better at speaking with the media, this was 3 years ago.

I agree. I would be much more comfortable with kul as DC because of his extensive coaching experience.

LSU chose to hire a guy who gave up 70 points in his last game, instead of promoting Raymond to DC this season.

What makes Raymond ready for a DC job now?
