Comment from lsu 247 reporter on Raymond

It seems that whomever Richt gets for OC, will essentially be a Co-OC, since Richt will be calling the plays. I imagine a Co-DC would work the same, with somebody designated as the playcaller during the game, but both guys also responsible for coaching a certain position group.

Not sure I'd want Raymond as Co-DC.... Cut the Co-DC altogether. Just hire a **** DC.

Sure seems to hurt Michigan State and TCU

How does the Co-DC work? I'm confused as to how you actually decide who calls the plays game day, what happens if they disagree with something, who decides on offering recruits, is it really 50-50 split? Not saying it wouldn't work, just confused as to how it works.
I don't know how it works everywhere, but at TCU, for instance, one DC will call the defensive front (blitzes/stunts/etc) and the other will call the secondary's coverage scheme behind it. It's an interesting way to go about it...to add another bit of nuance to it, the DC calling the coverages might call one coverage for one side of the formation and a different one on the other side, so you might have a hybrid man-zone coverage which makes pre-snap reads for the opposing QB an absolute bytch.

See this article that has, indeed, been posted here numerous times: Hard Knocks: Playing Defense With TCU?s Gary Patterson «

Lots of things bubble up to the NFL from college. In this case, splitting coverages and front assignments has trickled down from the NFL. As has been discussed here in the past, Seattle has done an awesome job of splitting their front - 2-gap vs 1-gap. It's a **** nightmare for an offense and puts the defense back in the position to dictate.

At this point, I just want something our players understand and can execute on instinct, please.

Novel idea...

Isn't it still possible that Aranda comes here as the DC? Possibility he gets a HC gig in 2 years, then have Raymond as coDC that gets promoted to DC! Let the savagery begin! YEAH! Let's eat!

I'm thinking more of the struggles he had with a big time DC (Pruitt) I'm incline to believe that he would split the duties amongst established position coaches that haven't had a shot. Would be a wise move.

Its kinda stupid to think coaches will be calling plays independent of each other. Its more like making it simple for the players and delegating responsibilities. So if one guy is calling the fronts, each coaches it to just the front guys and and give them the call, sake goes for the coverages and DBs. I'm kinda certain they would work out what coverages go with what fronts and then that also changes based on the personnel on the field as well. And also situational. All those things I'm sure are worked out in training camp and game planning making it simpler for the players and not confuse them with info that they won't need

Hearing that Miami and Corey Raymond's camp have in fact had contact. Nothing else to report at this time #Canes

Ah the anxiety wish we would hire these so I can go on living my life and not checking a message board every five minutes

LSU's bowl game is tomorrow so we should hear something tomorrow or Wednesday if in fact he's the guy.

I saw an lsu thread that mentioned Ron Cooper from USF as a possible replacement were they to lose Raymond. If we don't get Raymond, would Cooper be a viable option?

Cooper coached at LSU before Raymond. I think he's the guy that developed Peterson, Mathieu, and Mo Claiborne.

I think he'd be a legit coach fo Miami.

Just trying to put 2 and 2 together, but maybe there's a reason CMR is trying to get these two Louisiana DB's to visit (knowing that Raymond will be our DB coach?):

Shyheim Carter
Kristian Fulton

Corey Raymond was the head recruiter for both at LSU. He also was the lead recruiter for Trayvon Mullen, who I think has been an LSU lean or was for a while
