You're either confused, or dishonest ... But feel free to link something to correct me.
I've read it multiple times, too ...
But only from message board folks trying to justify why Golden is still around.
Shalala has never said anything like that about Golden.
In fact, what she has said is that Al Golden is the man for the job, and that fans just need to be patient. She has NEVER indicated Golden should be on shaky ground, but that she would leave it up to her successor to handle the situation.
I have, many times. She said she didn't want to put the responsibility of hiring a new coach on a new president.
"Some feedback from four prominent trustees, who asked that their names not be used:
### All four said Golden is expected to keep his job beyond this season.
Among the reasons: He’s signed through Feb. 1, 2020, and a multi-million dollar buyout would be a major obstacle; athletic director*Blake*James*believes in Golden; there’s a sense of loyalty to Golden for steering UM through the NCAA investigation; and there’s a strong belief that presidentDonna Shalala*would not fire her most*visible coach before her May retirement.
“She doesn’t want to leave on a sour note like that,” one of the trustees said. “She’s not going to fire the coach and walk away,” another said. “She’s not going to leave that financial burden on a new president,” another said."
Please read what you posted:
You are using provided statements from "unnamed" trustees to validate your statement that "Donna is on record".
So, again: When did SHALALA actually say it??
When is Shalala on record? Especially considering the "unnamed trustees" aren't even willing to go on record ...
I'm not going to play lawyerball with you. If Barry Jackson, someone extremely conservative when it comes to reporting on rumors and secondhand talk, is reporting it then I'm willing to accept it is as true without even scouring the interwebs for Cote, Hyde, etc saying the same. Go ahead and defend Flake on how you wish he'd conduct himself in the future but to believe that he alone could have canned Golden last season is ridiculously naive. That's where you're misunderstanding the criticism. There are MANY other real AD's that would have that power. Will he under Frenk? Maybe but I'm not holding my breath.
We agree ... I don't think James could have fired anyone.
I just believe the issue is with the BOT, not the office of the president or the AD.
