Coley is a little amped tonight

seriously the idea that miami's offense was underwhelming last year is completely crazy. i don't understand how anyone on this board thinks that.

how about yards per play? this has to be the simplest measure of an offense's ability. on an average snap, how many yards do you gain? last year there were only 10 teams better than miami on a per-play basis http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/yards-per-play

also the offense was missing its best player for half the season, and thus had a converted safety/wide receiver and converted fullback at running back. the leading returning receiver was out for 3/4 of the year and the third leading returning receiver broke his collarbone in the first game. the senior quarterback might not even get drafted.

the offense last year was very good, just outside elite by any stat that isn't "total offense" (and why would you care about total offense?). coley's offenses dating back to FSU have been consistently some of the best in college football.

Less than 40% on 3rd down in the ACC games. I don't care how many yards per play they had.

you know what's better than third down percentage? not getting in third downs in the first place, which tends to happen when you gain 6+ ypp!

Misleading stat biased by big plays. Don't get me wrong, I love the big plays, too, but when you get into 3rd down, you need to convert them to keep the drive moving, especially when your defense is so bad. Going 3 and out after your defense has been on the field for 6+ minutes doesn't help the team win. When the OL is supposed to be the strength of your offense, that's the time to ride them and move the chains.

lol our running backs were a converted safety/slot receiver, a 3-star true freshman and a guy with a broken neck

Come on. The most you can say is that it was inconsistent, and some of that is due to the injuries we suffered. If our offense truly were "putrid", there is no way we would have won 9 games, because our defense is much, much worse.

When considering the previous years success/what we had coming back, I stand by what I said.

What kind of drugs are you on? Our offense was putrid. Flat out embarrassing.

I have no problem with this. That said, the offense could've done more to help the defense (and vice versa, but I think we all know that the defense wasn't really capable of that). Fisch did a better job with Morris, IMO. Coach Coley had his moments...the 4th Q against UNC was how the offense should have looked the entire season, IMO (and that was without Duke).

the offense last year had its issues. way too many three and outs, would be the main one. but how much of that do you think is on the QB who was 80th in the country in completion percentage? (i'm not the biggest ryan williams fan but he managed to complete 68% of his passes. much smaller sample size vs much worse competition of course, but still.)

the offense, nonetheless, was very good. every stat supports this! except for total offense, which is a bogus stat you should not listen to. if you think the offense was bad or that coley is a bad coordinator i feel bad for you, son etc

That QB you speak of thrived the year before under a different coordinator. Offense had it's issues? We had more 3 & outs than any other team in the ACC. Do the math. 13 different ACC teams were better. Same with 3rd down conversions. Same with TOP. Same with redzone efficiency. That doesn't scream "very good" in my book. In fact, I'd say it's just the opposite.

2013: 57%, 3,028 yards, 8.8 Y/A, 21 TD, 12 INT, 144.67 rating, 26 passes per game
2012: 58%, 3,345 yards, 7.9 Y/A, 21 TD, 7 INT, 138.07 rating, 35 passes per game

morris averaged a yard more per attempt last year and had a higher qb rating. but yeah sure, whatever.

Didn't seem to hamper us in the 4th Q against UNC.

What about Mo Hagens? Everytime we used him he produced. Catching it or running it. You'd think we would use him more often on short yardage situations/goalline. Nope. We use the freshman who stands straight up. That's on Coley.

Since you feel like looking stuff up, please list his ACC stats from last year & this year. I'll wait.

i actually can't tell if you're trolling me at this point. yeah, the answer to the offense's problems was a fullback who carried 5 times on the season for 22 yards.

Exactly. Don't use the most reliable guy in the area you struggle the most.. Makes perfect sense.

the revisionist history regarding our offense this year is astounding. we were 123rd nationally in both time of possession and plays per game, and 104th in third down conversion percentage. what does that say regarding that cherry-picked yards per play average? that we had a big play here or there and the offense did nothing the rest of the game.

According to some, that is considered a "very good" offense. (his term not mine)

Never understood why we couldn't take more advantage of Hagans as a runner. I remember his high school video, and he was pretty good power runner. I thought he could carry the ball for us when we needed a power runner. Instead, he was relegated strictly to blocking. He probably came in thinking he would get some carries. Seemed kind of a waste, of course, we don't know what he coaches saw of him in practice.

In the meantime, I'm looking for some spanish, suckers.
