Coley is a little amped tonight

Wish he was HC
He'd do a way better job than golden IMO.
So would a carp.

I thought we were done with promoting assistants to HC after Coker and Shannon. Coley seems to have a bright future though it seems.

I don't get the love for Coley right now. Seems to be a real asset with the recruiting, but I wasn't impressed at all with his offense. We can bytch about Coach D and the defense for being terrible, but a lot of us knew the defense would be terrible. What's Coley's excuse? He had a senior QB, veteran OL, and talent at the skill positions.

This is the reason. Right now is recruiting season. His play calling etc will once again be examined during the season

He didn't do half bad considering he had an inconsistent and erratic qb and he lost 2 of his biggest playmakers all along scaling the offense down a bit because of Morris and still put up the 2nd most yards in miami hurricanes history....

3rd down conversions....apocraphyl. As bad as the defense was, the focus should've been on moving the chains and sustaining drives.

seriously the idea that miami's offense was underwhelming last year is completely crazy. i don't understand how anyone on this board thinks that.

how about yards per play? this has to be the simplest measure of an offense's ability. on an average snap, how many yards do you gain? last year there were only 10 teams better than miami on a per-play basis http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/yards-per-play

also the offense was missing its best player for half the season, and thus had a converted safety/wide receiver and converted fullback at running back. the leading returning receiver was out for 3/4 of the year and the third leading returning receiver broke his collarbone in the first game. the senior quarterback might not even get drafted.

the offense last year was very good, just outside elite by any stat that isn't "total offense" (and why would you care about total offense?). coley's offenses dating back to FSU have been consistently some of the best in college football.

**** yeah, Coley´s a great tweeter!!! Need more of them on the staff. And more thugs on the team. That´s it, thugs and tweeters and we´ll be back....

Less than 40% on 3rd down in the ACC games. I don't care how many yards per play they had.

We were also ranked 14th by Football Outsiders in offensive efficiency, which adjusts for SOS.

Although, Sebastian has a point in that we ranked only 50th in first down rate. I still put that more on Morris than anything else. He's always looking for the big play instead of moving the chains.

you know what's better than third down percentage? not getting in third downs in the first place, which tends to happen when you gain 6+ ypp!

So you're bragging about a feast or famine offense? We had the most 3 & outs in the ACC & worst 3rd down % rate.

Great compliment to an already terrible defense.

the offense last year had its issues. way too many three and outs, would be the main one. but how much of that do you think is on the QB who was 80th in the country in completion percentage? (i'm not the biggest ryan williams fan but he managed to complete 68% of his passes. much smaller sample size vs much worse competition of course, but still.)

the offense, nonetheless, was very good. every stat supports this! except for total offense, which is a bogus stat you should not listen to. if you think the offense was bad or that coley is a bad coordinator i feel bad for you, son etc

A lot of you are underestimating coach coleys recruiting ability. He is a top ten recruiter in the country

if coley continues to recruit as well as he has in the past the talent on offense will give him a huge buffer as he continues to (hopefully) improve an as OC and play caller. I have to think that his time spent with jimbo will yield results down the road...i hate jimbo and think he is a snake but he is a solid offensive mind and play caller.

What kind of drugs are you on? Our offense was putrid. Flat out embarrassing.

Come on. The most you can say is that it was inconsistent, and some of that is due to the injuries we suffered. If our offense truly were "putrid", there is no way we would have won 9 games, because our defense is much, much worse.

Misleading stat biased by big plays. Don't get me wrong, I love the big plays, too, but when you get into 3rd down, you need to convert them to keep the drive moving, especially when your defense is so bad. Going 3 and out after your defense has been on the field for 6+ minutes doesn't help the team win. When the OL is supposed to be the strength of your offense, that's the time to ride them and move the chains.

the offense was definitely inconsistent. it also had a QB who couldn't hit a WR in the hands on a screen pass.

That QB you speak of thrived the year before under a different coordinator. Offense had it's issues? We had more 3 & outs than any other team in the ACC. Do the math. 13 different ACC teams were better. Same with 3rd down conversions. Same with TOP. Same with redzone efficiency. That doesn't scream "very good" in my book. In fact, I'd say it's just the opposite.
