First of all, I appreciate the opportunity to ask this question. I am dismayed, as I know you are all, at the direction and state of affairs for my beloved Canes, both now and for the last two decades essentially. I did think Manny represented a younger, newer voice and was optimistic about his ability to put together a better product. However, it looks like more of the same. On many threads here it seems that we are talking about Cristobal as a foregone conclusion to come here. Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but aside from his previous ties, why would he leave his current situation? It appears he has a favorable administration and Phil Knight to spare no expense regarding facilities, "bags", etc. - Plus, won't Knight throw a ton of money at him to keep him there, perhaps him using our job as just leverage for more money? While I don't watch Pac-12 football as a rule, he must have a strong roster and better recruiting class(es) in the holster. Also, his path to a Playoff also seems at least as easy there as the ACC. Clemson, while down, is immensely talented and a recruiting juggernaut and it seems plausible that Corn Row Mike will have the A$$noles at least serviceable in the next couple seasons. All this to say, I would love the thought of Mario coming here to lead this rebirth of Miami football, but I cannot logically see why he would and don't want to get my hopes up just to see Blake retained and another sad, uninspiring hire take place. Can someone tell me what I'm missing here or should we really be focusing on other names? Thanks for the sounding board and looking forward to any real answers amidst the dragging some will likely give me. Go Canes!

I think it might be a moot point when you have knowledgeable posters like LCE who aren't all that high on Mario. You'd have to think that others who would be doing the search would have the same opinion and we'd end up with someone better.

I think LCE didn’t have Mario on his list because he just doesn’t think this is the destination for established coaches already in good positions so he probably doesn’t think Mario will come here not because he isn’t any good.

What he says makes sense. As he said elsewhere, the established HC we are likely to get is someone trying to resurrect their career - if we’d hire Freeze or Herman - or an up and coming coach looking for a salary and profile raise.

I still think Mario could be the lone exception because of the ties but it would apply to every other guy named Stoops and Campbell.

I also think a lot depends on what we do at AD. If we luck into hiring a respected AD, that could help significantly. If we stick with Blake or an unknown then….

2. Most of what you’re asking is in the Cristobal threads. Miami is home and his wife would really like to come back home. If we are close on money, that may be the deciding factor

We hired Manny. What makes you think they would do better all of a sudden after 20 years of bad hires.

LCE classified Mario as an unlikely target because he doesnt believe that we will spend a lot of money.
