Coach Prime

Stop the exaggeration. FCS football is not high school football. As a former five star he should do well though. I mean we see fcs programs beat fbs programs all the time.
Ok..stop the exaggeration

FCS teams don't beat FBS programs all the time...it DOES happen a time or two a year, but it IS the exception. FBS programs beat FCS programs over 95% of the time. If you want to specifically talk about how HBCUs have performed against FBS teams, its worse compared to FCS as a whole against FBS. This year Jackson St lost to a sub .500 Louisiana-Monroe by only a score of 12-7.

FCS does have good teams that play good ball. They do have players drafted in the first few rounds of the draft on a consistent basis. However, using the HOF argument is one argument, not the only argument.

Coach Prime has done a great job at JSU (on and off the field), but the SWAC isn't really known to be a conference full of great teams. Yes, Eddie Robinson did GREAT things at Grambling, but overall, the conference isn't consistently full of top tier FCS/1-AA teams. If you donr believe me, go dig up records over the last 20 years and tell me how they've done...AND tell me what happens when one of their teams goes to the FCS/1-AA playoffs. SWAC teams aren't necessarily in the running to get an automatic slot in the playoffs, but they do have a path to get there.

Coach Prime probably has the best staff, and perhaps the best roster in the SWAC and he had an 11-1 record going into their bowl game against 6-5 SC State. Jackson St (11-1 going into the game) lost to SC State.

I wish Travis Hunter the best, but I hope he wasn't sold a bag of bad NIL deals just to go to a school where he will play against a much lower caliber of athlete at practice and on game day. This kid has alot of talent, and no one wants to see the kid, or any kid fail.

The only Coach Prime I care about.

Lem Barney, Walter Payton, Robert Brazile, and Jackie Slater. Only 13 college football teams at any level have produced more Pro Football Hall of Famer than Jackson State.
I'm not minimizing that legacy but if it's a standard that will influence recruits today then Pitt should be winning recruiting battles left and right with 9 HoF'ers and kids should be flipping a coin between Baga and Syracuse as they both have 8. And we essentially should be king since most of our 9 inductees are more "modern era" than any other program.

A little OT here but what level of committment do you guys think Sanders shouid* feel to stay at Jackson State too? This guy shouldn't get all this praise intertwined with the social ramifications and then dip at the first Power 5 job offered while screaming that he "built" something great at Jackson State that will last. No, Deion....they were the only place that would hire you and you used it as a stepping stone once NIL money gave you the final amount of shine to get offers elsewhere.

Personally, I think the dude needs to stay there at least 2 more years and turn down a few "better" opportunities to end up not looking like a fraud or a liar in relation to what he's now trying to sell potential Power 5 kids to go there. HIM dipping TO a Power 5 program is even more hypocritical than is normally expected from coaches in general.

Deion will hold out for that FSU job...or a job near his home in Dallas as long as he could.

No you don't.

You do. There’s at least one fcs football team to beat a fbs team every year. You probably don’t see it because you don’t watch the games like that man. This year alone, 12 fcs teams beat fbs opponents. Every year multiple fcs teams beat fbs opponents. But that was my only criticism at @Dwinstitles post. He’s right that dude should do well. If he struggles, he should never been ranked that high.

C'mon it happens but it's fcs relax

It happens a lot though. He should definitely ball out, there’s no excuses. I only had that one exception with the high school level comment. I think fcs needs more respect than that. I remember in 2013 Oregon State with Brandin Cook losing to Eastern Washington. They couldn’t stop Cooper Kupp & Vernon Adams.

That's what I'm saying if he doesn't do well then he was rated too high. I wonder why Bama and UGA didn't go hard after Hunter. UGA letting a kid just go? I trust those evals. They let Hasslewood go who I thought was an overrated bust. He couldn't get any speration in and out of his breaks.

Yeah but is there a P5 that would hire him, say after next season?

I can’t think of hardly any that would even take that chance. I wonder who would?

Yea you don’t know what you’re talking about. 12 fcs teams beat their fbs opponents this year. With the exception of the 2020 season (fcs played in the spring) & 2019 season (fcs only won 3 games against fbs), FCS opponents won at least 7 games against fbs opponents since 2012. I never understood how people argue to argue without referencing anything. Like I said, you see fcs teams beat fbs teams all the time. For a lot of teams the biggest difference is depth in quality players 85 scholarships to 63 fbs to fcs. FBS have larger budgets able to recruit better athletes and are able to more resources.

And let’s quit with the Travis Hunter take. Kids choose schools all the time for whatever reason. Let the kid live with his decision. I mean kids sign with schools for the 💰, for the uniforms, their parents, their girlfriends, their favorite players etc. They live with their decisions. If anything Travis gave the most logical reason, and he gets coached by arguably the greatest corner of all time who was also an elite 2way prospect. When we struggled we still wanted the top athletes to come here. We were under .500 in 07 & ‘14, & ‘19 we still wanted the best athletes and many kids still came when opponents said we were dead. Hunter is doing the same thing with his chose.

That being said, we see FCS teams beat fbs all the time.

I agree with you on all of that. It was just the high school comment. However, everything else is spot on. He was overrated if he struggles. I’m finding out some HS coaches got the pull with some of these recruiting analysts and are really good with marketing their players for a high ranking. It remains to be seen. Pope was a 5 star, it’s obvious that he shouldn’t been ranked that high but he should do well on the fcs level. If he doesn’t, then it is what it is.

I have no idea but you certainly see more and more talking heads saying he shouid get the opportunity at a P5 school and we all know how media narratives can eventually be spoken into actual fruition. Dan Orlovsky was out saying he'd be the FIRST guy he'd call if he had to fill an opening at a P5 school.

I guess, according to you, it's rains alot in Pheonix.....33-37 days a year.

There were 116 FBS v FCS games this year....so yeah, 12 games is ALOT.

Thanks cluebird

I think he should have the same level of commitment schools have for coaches and vice Versa..meaning as long as their plans align he should do his job to the best of his ability

Let it go. You didn’t know what you were talking about. 12x is a lot more than 1 or 2x like you claim. You didn’t know what you were talking about. I already spoke with the poster who I originally spoken too. I didn’t say they won the majority of their match ups. I said we see a fcs team beat a fbs team all the time. You trying to salvage a debate where you didn’t know much about the topic is unnecessary. From your “once or twice” proved that you were thinking something totally different.
