Coach Macho - aggressive man coverage?

No question. This Defensive staff is the best staff we have had at Miami in over 20 years! DC/LB Corey Hetherman
Safeties Zach Etheridge
CBs Will Harris
DE Jason Taylor
DT Damione Lewis

My point is that what you said about DC Corey Hetherman is 100% right on the money but when you add the caliber of coaches we hired above, it becomes a force multiplier. Man I cannot wait to see what these coaches can do in year 2 as it's a minor miracle that they are all back. Add that to the offense that we are going to unleash and I'm already feeling withdrawals from a lack of "From the Bench Press"!
It’s not as hype as starting last year with Notre Dame but I’m ready to head west and **** up some nerds

I don’t remember a whole lot of coverage busts tbh but I agree
Again its hard to get into these because we have some spazzes on here who cant talk ball and it comes across as nitpicking which its not but like mentioned in my first post, the Dline covered a few sins, Gawd bless them, lol.. (just watch any * all 22 breakdown, dudes were running wide open but Sayin was seeing ghost)

Ones that should immediately come to mind ND game had the TE bust that let them back in game, SMU had the TD bust, tamu mario craver.. Those standout immediately, see below.. Like I said defense was good and excited because there was meat on bone and room for continued growth with second season in scheme.

All defenses work, if you execute.

I run country C3. You explain the weaknesses of the defense to the kids and where you are exposed. So they have the why down. One thing we rarely ever have, is a blown coverage. Not matching guys, but we relate to 2/3.

We do everything out of a 2 high shell, so things aren’t rolling until post snap. Quarters day 1 install, C3 then C1 then Palms (2read).

Love 5 man pressures, can do it as 3 over 3 (cover3) or 4 over 2 (quarters) or obviously C1

If you catch us, you catch us. Play ball.

SMU play - what happened here? Supposed to be press bail spot drop cover-3 but corner plays MOD? Scott immediately turns to the corner asking whys hes not in deep third there. If it's match that's on Scott but I trust him

TAMU bust - what is Frederique doing?

I knew the ND one and A&M was gonna be shown but I mean the year before it was every game I would say it was few and far between this year. Next year in year 2 u would think the DBs will have less air between WRs. Few miscommunications but overall I think they were solid all year especially in the playoffs they were sticky to most WRs

In the TAMU bust, Frederique obviously got the call wrong. You can see him pass Craver off.

Frederique was in cover 2

And then Ole Miss’ TE made a highlight tape off the corner route - one of the hardest routes to cover and communicate while in Cover3.

For run game reasons, I understand why Hetherman stays away from quarters, but I never understood why he played such little Cover2 as a mixup coverage. Especially with our DL. Cover 2 with solid press or hands on the WRs would force all sorts of adjustments from Ocoordinators.

Again, I understand the reasons and a lot of the results were fantastic, especially in the run game support, but we’ll see if Hetherman adds some spice in year 2.
💯

@Coach Macho in your opinion do we have the CBs to play aggressive press man coverage as a base in our defense? And any thoughts for how to better defend the QB draw. Our defense is elite but the quick throws and QB draws caused us problems last season in big games.
Maybe I'm confused. But I'm pretty sure mobile QBs we did pretty **** good against with shutting down the run. Castellanos was most effective for obvious reasons. Far as quick pass you already called out the solution. Play more press. Yes we have the corners for it so long as rush still gets home. It's simple logic.

Returning all 4 CBs along with the young DBs improving that unit will be a strength. I’m hoping for more press on early downs to avoid the quick easy yards

All of that including the majority of the success for the DBS as a whole is reliant on the success of the front. Well see how we do against the run. Pass rush will still get home. Not as effectively or as dominant but it'll be plenty. But we're Reuben and messidore were really elite was when you combined their ability to shut down the run. We don't have that from our edges anymore. Have to see if Blount moves inside or keeps floating. But wilson is trash against the run and Lightfoot says it in the name. Jt has his hands full this year and gets to really prove his worth.

Hopefully this is the role for Lowe to fill

Minnesota last year. It was his first year there too so idk what system he inherited compared to uS and if that influenced him. So maybe we get more man and a lil more quarters? Cov3 obviously his base, we’ll see if it evolves to more match
Bh the end of the year his coverages were adapting. We were seeing a lot more press opposed to the beginning of the season. If we were pressing against Louisville and SMU we won both easy. Especially Louisville.

So...
From what other college DC's have told me...
The "match" version of Cover-3 is more "expensive". In other words, takes longer/harder to teach.

Given that you’ve installed and taught Cover 3 Match year over year, does the “cost” decrease for a player like Jaylyn Jones when he gets to miami? Seems like getting guys from hs and the portal who have run the “final” version of the system you want is part of the solution to offset the time constraints.
