On Chad Thomas the past couple seasons…

“I think he played very cautious from what I can see in past years here. He played like he was afraid to make a mistake. Now, he has to play a little bit more aggressive or reckless and it is ok because he bought into that. Instead of being in the right place and letting somebody else make the tackle, he can make the tackle. Hopefully he is seeing how good he can be, because he can be really good.”

On how the defensive linemen have adjusted to the scheme…

“The guys seem to enjoy playing in our defense. Our structure with guys, we are not lining guys up and asking them to play with their head up and move side to side in a two-gap system. We have 11 guys on defense and all 11 guys have a chance to make a play.”

On how this Miami defensive line compares to his Missouri defensive lines…

“I can’t really tell you. Two years ago if you told me that Shane Ray was going to be a first round draft pick, I would have said no way.

On what he looks for when recruiting defensive linemen…

“We want guys that can run. I don’t want any big guys who are strong, but struggle with change of direction. We need guys that can run and change direction and we are looking for guys that are playmakers.

Pretty interesting stuff on Shane Ray cant believe he improved that much under kool

and I hope to see the Chad we all hoped he would be...

Here is a question I have....on the practice videos I see another coach working with him.
A white dude.
Anyone know who this guy is?
Probably a GradAsst, just wondering who it is, if he also came from Mizzou.
I kind of wish Kareem Brown was working with him, learning from the master.

The entire defense played afraid to make mistakes. That's what happens when you have bad leadership that disciplines for "freelancing" even though you make a play. Oh and playing a passive *** defense. It's tough to grow confidence when your not allowed to make plays.

He's got at least 6 guys who I think are multiyear NFL players and have been in the program for 1 year or more. If Diaz stays true to form and his word and Coach Kul produces growth, this group should put up a 50% increase from last year's sack production, which would be about 3 sacks per game and somewhere near the Top 10 in the country.

The D played timid and to worried about getting benched for ATTACKING. Chad and Quan both could be first round picks if they wait until their senior to leave out. Quan can actually play LB if needed that kid flat out fast for his size. Seen him run down kids off STA when Bosco played them

Total and complete indictment on the Golden 3-4 defense meant for strong North East kids with brains and no athletic ability. So much for the seemingly concerned effort to not put the old coaches on blast. I personally want to see more putting those ammeters on blast. It's a Cane thing.

I think we're really in for a special year on Defense.
We have the best Defensive line coach in the country, at the one spot that we've struggled with the most in the past decade & it just so happens DLine is the most stacked position on the team.

More proof that Golden and D'no were unintelligent, yellow backed failures.

WOuldnt say intelligent just an exteremly bad fit here, I see the logic in his scheme its just not for SFL players
Logic is knowing that **** would not work here. Golden and No D knows not the meaning of the word. It was trash a Temple too.

Coach Kool to D-lineman is what Emanuel Steward was at the Kronk Gym

He churns out champs like an assembly line

I think I'll jump off a bridge if our D is bad this year. I just can't imagine our D not improving by a very, very large margin this year.

Excited to see this guys group more than anything else this year. They will be dominating at times I think

I'd give my left leg to be that GA who's working with him.

"there's nothing wrong with the scheme." - Al Foldin'

U cant work in anything u do if u afraid to make a mistake even if u moving bricks just move them.......ag talking bout brick by brick literally would of took 90 years to build what he wanted

I think NoD was actually pretty smart, but him being smart does no good when your players don't understand what to do. You're only as smart as what your players can comprehend.

Only knowing exactly what to do 50% or less of the time in his defense turns into the results we had last year. In the 100s in most defensive categories

So U just implied that our players were the ones who were unintelligent or who had comprehension issues…classic lol! Does being intelligent constitute the ability to teach? Would Benjamin Bannecker have been a great coach lol! So I guess U believe that D'No should be an aerospace engineer instead.

Its also his and Golden's fault for being bad fits here (along with their employers UM). When U apply for a job and before U accept a job, it is your responsibility to understand the dynamics and nuisances associated with the job. Its unintelligent to sign up for a wildlife safari in the Congo of Central Africa, and then to pack sweaters, snow boots, fur coats and Northface winter apparel for the job. The first step in being an intelligent person is to have common sense.
