CMR Hires

I am sure Manny vouched for them, and told CMR they are ready to run his defense. Good thing is to keep playing this style of D.

People can knock Diaz all they want. I have plenty of times.

But aleast Manny had the experience. He got his feet wet under MA. Coached at NCST. Was a coordinator at MSU,TX, MTS before coming here.

I don’t care how good Banda and Patke are at recruiting or how they are fast risers. Big deal that Banda has done well coaching safeties. He hasn’t put in the work to become a DC. Atleast not at Miami!

Outside of CMR, Manny had the 2nd most experience as a coach. His side of the ball has been the best and most consistent over the past 3 year.

We are too **** green on defense and it will show just like it shows with Hartley and his ST unit.

This was a lazy hire and it just sealed CMRs fate.

How you going to say we would conduct a national search and then a day later hire two incarnate Word mothafckuers...

CMR is done and we are back to 2015 all over again.

What coach in the world, wanting to build a champion, would make these hires...nobody, not even A complete idiot. Has he been check for that concussion disease?

Man, it's more than just a scheme. It's an entire system. It's knowing all the Os you will be facing. There is no way you can tell me Banda and Patke have the experience to be DC.
Product they put on the field should leave no doubt they. Can be a dc.

Just to cherrypick one part of the OP's thoughts and perhaps I'm being too literal with it but I want to address the "give them a chance" sentiment.

There shall be NO chances given if that means ANYTHING beyond not dismissing them right now. If it means a "learning curve" once the actual season starts or ANY other excuses chalked up to inexperience then F them both and F Rick for promoting people that weren't ready for the mantle. They should be judged next year EXACTLY as we'd judge Diaz if he stayed or if Rick had actually moved from his *** and hired a known entity for the job.

Sooooo, I'm willing give the duo "a chance" but I'm not giving them ANY room to learn on the job. This shouldn't be an effing program where that is EVER acceptable.

Difference is, Diaz, Rumph, and Simpson have all done SOMETHING in the world of football.

You're not even comparing apples to oranges. You're comparing apples to gorilla balls. It is even worse than that. Diaz was a DC elsewhere before getting that job here. He had proven he could be a defensive coordinator at a p5 school. Banda and Patke have not.

Better question: Does anyone honestly think Patke or Banda could get a DC gig at Alabama, UGA, OSU, Michigan, ND, Oklahoma, or Clemson? Not a ******* chance. Because no legitimate schools would consider them qualified for the position. Just our senile, stubborn coach and his meek AD.

We need a coach that is as tired as us when it comes to being second to the elite time and time again. That would develop a jimmy Johnson mentality which recruits would pick up on and want to get behind. Js

Doesnt matter....Richt still calling the offense. Still have an above average D and the O not scoring

First of all I love the Banda/ Patke hire. If it gets us:

-Summerall/ Zip
-Rique
-Bogle

then it was worth it as that is some serious blue chip talent and needed momentum on our team.

Secondly, our safeties have been one of our best position groups. Banda can DEVELOP AND COACH kids . If he lands Stevenson then he would have landed the 2 best safeties in Florida in a two year span in Gurvan Hall and Tyrique Stevenson.

I think CMR has a good eye for getting good coaches on the cheap especially on defense.

When Manny Diaz came , many people questioned the hire because he was not an Aranda ( guy I and everyone wanted). Yet Diaz had an iffy reputation from Texas that he had not been able to shed. Here he is now among the hottest coordinators and obviously with the second ranked pass defense turned that into a head coaching job.

Same can be said for Mike Rumph. Many people wanted a more experienced guy in there and a better recruiter ( trust me I want to recruit corners better as well). But without even getting the top tier guys Rumph managed to have us as the #1 pass defense in the nation.

Jess Simpson? A High school coach who became an Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant. I also remember this board expressing concerns about this guy, especially when coach Kool was considered the top DL coach in America who we had just lost. Now no one cares about Kool and we love Simpson and have seen our DL IMPROVE.

So what if Banda/ Patke are home runs as well? What if we get a similar top 10 defense next year for cheap AND WE get a better recruiter as our DC in Banda and great safeties coach ?

Not to mention, hopefully this frees up cap space to hire an OC that we all want. Give them a chance, I think these guys have been learning with Diaz , know our Defense and will bring the thunder.
I do agree with you that richt has done well hiring defensive coaches. This tho does seem to be a reach considering our D will be called by a first timer, and we have no idea If these guys have any ability at all to adjust in game.

We will definitely find out, but I’m nervous.

I agree.. top.15 -20 D ( considering our Defensive losses) or go home.

Spot on. That was going to be a reasonable standard to hold Diaz to based on possible departures. And that's still one where you say the team would absolutely be competitive and relevant if the offense just matches suit.

Pretty fair.

For the record I’m a big Banda fan.

I shouldn’t be surprised at any of this so hopefully these guys step up and do work.

Lol if you think a couple of blue chips is better than hiring an experienced DC. You will soon see why that won't work when we don't land all of them. Then next season with games and defensive adjustments. Richt has decided to sink his ship. Won't hire a OC, it will probably be Cooney as ST coach.
