As a regular attender of Clemson games, I said this off-season that Miami's WR room was better than Clemsons.
Their recruiting slipped badly after Jeff Scott left for USF.
I always felt Dabo meddled in the offense too much, but when you have talents like Watson and Lawrence and Etienne and Hopkins and Watkins and Williams and Higgins it covers that stuff up.
On the defensive side, he basically hired a "nerd" with Zero experience to run the defense after having the best DC in country leave in Venables. Little short chubby guy who is a brilliant mind (allegedly), but as a recruiter? Venables was a great recruiter. Also where is respect factor trying to hold kids accountable? I was at a game last year sitting close to field, and every time the defense made a play he was going up to Dabo almost like he was seeking approval. It was like, "hey Dad did I do good?"
Also their 2023 DL class was good, but I felt the year prior was a nothing burger. Their DEs aren't good at getting pass rush. Even with some solid players like Ruke and Tyler Davis, they aren't Wilkens and Lawrence talents.
Then of course it's been well
Documented that Dabo has not embraced the portal. He believes in his program and culture, and doesn't want to replace his guys with other peoples guys.
I still think they can win 9-10 games, and they have had Miamis number, so anyone thinking that will be a moderately
Easy W is sadly mistaken. I think they will bounce back, and play Free shoes tough.
On road first game new offense, against a 9-10 win Duke team with a really good QB was a tough opener.
