Clemson perspective…

Not defending Gattis in any way, shape, or form, but Steve breaks this play down nicely. This should be, at absolute worst, a 6-7 yard gain to Ladson throwing into the blitz. It is very easily a 20 yard gain throwing to Mallory on the post. And it’s a touchdown if he goes to Skinner on the flex fade. But we do none of the 3, and we take a safety.

This **** is SO deflating. We can’t do anything creative, and when we do have the right call for a defense, we can’t execute. Even when we don’t even do anything creative, and the defense blows a coverage like they did to Restrepo on the first drive, we can’t execute. It’s a poorly coached, poorly played game every single week. We have a long, long, long way to go. This right here is exactly how you go 5-6.

Coach Hayes broke this down; saw the same chit. It was an unnecessary sack. 3 Wide Open Players; I can give a pass for missing Mallory & Skinner, but he’s looking towards Ladson way & refused to throw the ball.

Yeah it’s been some play calling, but it’s been a whole slew of lack of execution & Will Mallory is absolutely a$$ at blocking. Literally cost us yards & plays.

Have we run a single screen play this year when a team is showing blitz? It seems we always have guys running 20 yard routes downfield and the quarterback has no chance.
Bruh we have NO SCREEN GAME, to think of. No jailbreak, no slow screens (RB or TE). I did see a 1 key (fast) screen to be number 1 WR in the Clemson game, but guess what… 85 whiffed on the block…. 2nd and 16. FML 🤦🏾‍♂️

So frustrating. If you literally knew the defense's call, this is the exact play you'd run. Hitches on the outside in case someone comes free, and if you can pick up the blitz, a levels concept in the middle of the field putting the single high safety in a bind. This call is perfect. And as I said, even if we didn't even try to block the CB, you should still get this to Ladson for a gain. But Knighton does a decent job of impeding him, it's not a perfect stonewall but it's ok to at least get the ball off, and he has zero pocket awareness, essentially runs into the sack, and doesn't take any of the 3 open options. Very easily a 90 yard TD for us turns into 2 points for them. Maddening.

To be fair, 11 has no business playing in this game right now. He's not anywhere close to ready to compete in mental games like this where he has to read defenses and make throws downfield. But still, it's just a microcosm of the entire season. When plays are there, we can't make them. And far too often, they're not there. We can't run the ball consistently, we can't block on the perimeter, we can't catch, we can't throw the ball down the field. This offense literally does NOTHING well. And that includes coaching and players.

Wouldn’t read too much into it. Our defense often loses the battle before the ball is even snapped with our alignment issues. Was on full display in first half. Also slant after slant after slant in first half with zero adjustments. And than you throw in the qb draw or scramble on 3rd down? Taking candy from a baby

Good offenses will have their way with this defense. We have been abused by any offense with a pulse. Looked good against crap offenses
Hopefully the outdated recruiting template that has haunted Miami for 20 years focusing too much on So Fl and getting too many divas over coachable and football savy hard-nosed players, is over.

Let me know when u do; it’s a fascinating piece, & it’s y I rewatch games myself to see is it players, play calls, a combination or what. Coach Hayes & I be on the same page a lot.

We’ve been beating ourselves a lot this yr. Ppl r right, we don’t have a talent issue, we have an IQ issue, & b/c we’re not a team, we have a communication issue. One thing I know in sports, u can have a roster full of all stars; if that locker room is f’d up, the play on the field/court/diamond will be f’d up.

This is a vital part of "talent", btw.

Any time there is one of those breakdown videos and they start critiquing play calls, scheme, etc. its almost always followed by one or more of the players ******* up and makes playcall, scheme discussion pretty pointless. Every coordinator is going to have dogsh!t calls. But when those calls are also filled with blown assignments, misreads, missed passes, dropped balls, missed blocks, wide outs not keeping route integrity, etc.

At that point we can't have a real conversation on anything but what you see on the field which is an incredible amount of player errors.

Man, listen; there’s a reason y I’ve been hard on the players & Gattis. Gattis needs to go hang out w/ Kyle Shanahan to learn how to run tight formations, effectively & inefficiently.

However, one thing that Coach Hayes helps me to see in his film reviews is that I’m not being overly critical of the players. The IQ in the QB room has been a complete chit show. Whether it’s been TVD earlier in the season, or Garcia & Jacurri all season. There’s been a slew of plays available & open. Garcia have seen blitzes come; the team is showing u where the blitz is coming from, & this dude literally turns his back to it & gets blasted from behind all the time, just holding on to the ball.

Guys r running open either from blown coverage or scheme & are not found. John Campbell & Scaife? Need to go immediately; legit useless along the OL. Mallory? Cannot be used in any blocking scheme, ever. I’m bringing in Khalil from here on. Use Skinner & Mallory on obvious passing situations, only.

I’ve seen so many reckless defensive plays, over pursuing while losing leverage or gap integrity, & JW0 literally looks lost out there in coverage & picking up formation. Wes is young, so his eyes aren’t developed yet, but we have a combo of bad IQ, lack of athleticism (& FSU/Clemson clearly showed that) + some coaching issues. I wanna put it all on the coaches, normally, but I’ve seen the same chit from last season, too; but at least the offense could hit boom plays to cover it up.

When you get your starting quarterback hurt with a bad play call and destroy your back up putting him in impossible situations cold, you can’t complain that your true freshman who is NOT ready misses open receivers.

Obviously Mario was brought in to build the program to handle this and expectations and win big.

Everyone loves to talk about what Clemson has become over the past handful of years, forgetting that Dabo has been doing his thing there since 2009 when he beat Randy Shannon in overtime at LandShark in overtime.

The Tigers have built with and around this man for 14 seasons while the Canes are on their fifth head coach since Dabo's first full season.

LOL. I'm all for holding coaches accountable, but this is complete nonsense.

Our offense has no answer for the blitz, especially on 3rd down. This is a known issue and defensive coordinators are taking advantage. Gattis called a mesh play that we had no chance of blocking when Duke was showing and brought an all out blitz. TVD was a sitting duck and a season ending injury was the result.

He didn’t have Garcia ready and didn’t help him transition with quality game plans. You bring your back up quarterback along slowly and develop his confidence with easy, rhythm building plays. We didn’t do that and it culminated in that disaster we witnessed against FSU. “It’s 3rd and forever, Jake. Run out there and make a play out of our own end zone.” We have watched that dude call runs for TVD in those situations, but he throws Garcia to the wolves.

He has done an awful job managing this offense and the consequences have been dire.

Pretty sure I've seen the loss of 3 yards screen pass a couple times this year. ;)

As some know I have a lot of Clemson ties. I was at game Saturday. My family has lots of ties and season tickets.

@DMoney brought up a point on his podcast weeks ago. We aren’t good anymore but because of our past success and 30 for 30s, we don’t get any overlooks by teams. We get teams best shots.

So it’s double whammy because we suck and we never really get overlooked.

Obviously Mario was brought in to build the program to handle this and expectations and win big.

I listen to Clemson radio and the feeling there is Clemson played their best half of the year against Miami. From being up for game, and the execution it was as good as DJ U played all season. They were talking about his accuracy in this game was off the charts. From Being at game and being at other games I can agree with this.

He was decisive in read option game as well as any game this year too.

Now listen to what I’m saying Clemson didn’t need their A game to beat Miami, but they played their a+ game in 1st half.

DJ was inaccurate last week vs. Louisville on slants, and in this game he looked like Aaron Rogers.

We have historically made opposing QBs have their best half/game of the year due to significant issues with scheme/talent. Clemson fans need to understand this.

Both quick screens where our number 2 WR/TE (85) missed blocks on the CB. Yet we still trot his *** out there asking him to block. FML.

What is really funny is that every single time 85 DOES make a good block, someone else screws up badly. It's a comedy of errors out there, every **** play. It's shocking at how bad these coaches are at identifying what they have, and what that talent does best, or doesn't do so well.

Facts. It’s like they gonna pound that square peg into that round hole, consequences be damned!

The word on the street is that MTSU also looked better than they have in any game this season when they played Miami.

Canes are so bad we made MTSU look invincible. There’s been nothing to hate about Miami for 15 years. I think Clemson brought their A game for a blowout and ranking recognition. They had no respect for Miami and Miami didn’t deserve any.
