Someone mentioned yesterday, think it was the 247 guy on YouTube. He said Dabo has had 69 players drafted at Clemson and only 5 were OL. I haven't verified it but that shocked me you know because our fans like to only mention NFL draft picks when they compare our team to playoff teams. This is a team that owns our conference and has beaten the best SEC teams múltiple times. But that simple makes you know coaching matters, much much more than simply loading your team with players. And it matters more at certain positions. That neckroll white guy can play LB for Clemson but we cry about our LBs. Our LBs are probably faster than that guy and yet he was killing our OL and banging into Cam. You need elite coaching at OL, LB and QB. The evaluation, developing player IQ and such matters so much more than watching highlight tapes from high school. Lets hope we are turning the corner and we see players emerge because they have been coached up properly. Because as far as im concerned this season is all on the coaching staff.

Their OL coach Robbie Caldwell is a Grey beard...been around for years and is highly-regarded with deep roots in the Carolinas and from the Furman coaching tree, a program that has won for years....OP is right, coaching matters.
What’s his wife look like? Cause you know that’s a huge determining factor of his recruiting ability

Schematically, they don’t need to have a dominating OL to be successful. Let alone, the freaks they have at the skill position. Their OL just needs to be above average at all times. A lot of zone read/option plays. Hence why they had Lawrence at 6’6 running acting like he was Vick

Bamas/Georgia’s/Wisconsin’s of the world want to pound the rock traditionally that makes them need those big body movers.

but I do agree with coaching. I’ve been saying for a while…. We need some crazy asss white LBs.

They’re not white but troutman Tyler and thomas Davis(DE) bring a little extra crazy to our defense provided they get in the game

Clemson has had success by scheming around the fact that they rarely have a great line. They don't line up and just attempt to bully teams. Last year's unit was particularly weak for their standards.

Because being fast at linebacker doesn't matter if you have no instincts. You can coach a guy until you're blue in the face but if he doesn't have that nose for the ball, he'll never be a good linebacker. Our most awarded defensive player in team history was recruited as a running back and moved to linebacker as a freshman and immediately became a starter and impact player. Coaching isn't the issue. Identifying and targeting the right players has been.

Yes but that is coaching lol. Identifying players ability and project them is a talent. Also yes u can coach up players ability to diagnose plays,Recognize keys based on what the OL does, alignment etc. Things they will not have done to a high level in high school. So yes its all coaching.

Clemson has signed stud after stud at QB and WR. They also recruit well at DL and CB.

Tahj Boyd then Deshaun Watson then Trevor Lawrence then D.J. U.

D.J. is the most gifted of them all 6'5 250 with athletic ability and a stronger arm than Trevor. He should be #1 pick in next years NFL draft.

At WR You had Deandre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Mike Williams, Tee Higgins, and Justyn Ross. Not to mention pieces like Etienne, Renfrow, Leggett, Amari Rogers.

At DL players like Grady Jarrett, Vic Beasley, Shaq Lawson, Christian Wilkens, Dexter Lawrence, Clelin Ferrell, now Myles Murphy and Brian Bresee.

the last two OL coaches we had before Justice were complete duds… it’s a surprise we’ve built it up this quickly. The future is bright

Your offense aint doing squat v the Bamas of the world if their DL is in the back field in 2 seconds or u cant run the ball. And they have done it which is credit to their OL coaching and development.

I don't know what's more perplexing, that they can develop good enough to have that success without NFL players, or how they can't develop OLinemen to the NFL at all.

Sounds like they're signing smart guys regardless if they're physically dominant.

I realize it was a different era and landscape was different, but UM won many games during the 1980s and 1990s with mostly undersized, if not underrecruited, OLmen. Possible exceptions being Leon Searcey and Mike Sullivan, but most of our guys were small, tough and often had played other positions...but coaching, talented roster and great QBs mitigated it.

Stoutland was the best in the last decade and got snatched by Bama. AND Kehoe is a legend and knows how to coach OL.

And last year their offense was all about misdirection. Like you said they don't try to play bully, they play to their strengths.
