@TheOriginalCane ....Credibility because he had a relative go their??....You do realize @Poopscoop played & started for UM??....He forgot more about UM FB than anyone knows about UM FB on this board....I've known this Man since he was a Freshman at UM....My advice...Listen to him...If not...Please don't discredit him....and by the way..before you start the proverbial "I'm a UM Grad"....so is he...actually he has 2 Degrees...one from UM...and one from another school....successful businessman, with a Son who is as successful, if not more...

I'm not questioning his personal background, I am pointing out that he built his entire argument on "my nephew roomed with Greg" and he is telling us a BS story about Kuligowski being the primary "developer" of Rousseau.

Rousseau didn't commit to Miami until the end of April in 2017. He enrolled in January 2018. Kuligowski left a couple of weeks later. Yet we are supposed to believe that Kuligowski should be credited as the primary developer of Rousseau because he was magically (and apparently illicitly) working with Rousseau for months before his enrollment. And that no other Miami coaches should be given any credit for developing Rousseau.

This has nothing to do with degrees or anything else, but that story is a load of crap. Nobody disputes that Kuligowski may have taught Rousseau some techniques in camps or Paradise or whatever, but just because he was the first guy to tell Greg where to put his hand in a 3-point stance doesn't mean he is his primary coach and should be given all the developmental credit. At least now I understand why those F$U coaches claim that they developed players they never actually coached, it's because they are trying to say if they were the first coach to explain a particular technique to a kid, then all the credit should go to them, not the position coach who actually worked with the player for years.

Look, people (including our former players) have their own personal biases as to which coaches they think are better/worse. Some guys like this coach over that coach, I understand that. ****, if you want to be honest, some kids really liked Al Golden and Mark D'Onofrio too. I'm not knocking Kuligowski and I'm not exalting any other coach, I'm just being honest and realistic and not pretending that our coaching staff "can't" develop DEs by exaggerating some story about how Greg Rousseau learned all of his techniques before he ever enrolled in college.

I understand that, and that is my exact point. They can reach out to agents or intermediaries through backchannels during the season regardless of the coach being fired or not.
Yeah which is why i mentioned the recruits. Now they have time to keep them on board or find alternatives. But that just flew over your head

This is why firing a coach at this point in the season makes no sense. Fickell is obviously not leaving Cincinnati two games into their season and it just gives Cincinnati more time to negotiate with Fickell for more money and a longer contract, especially now that they are moving to the Big 12.

I don't think many/any of the currently-employed guys are leaving mid-season, which is why it is so curious at to USC's timing and/or leaking news items related to "Fickell has the job if he wants it".

The one INSANE wildcard would be if Meyer suddenly quits the Jags job.

The only thing I will say about Urban Meyer and USC is that the USC fan base is obsessed with him. Supposedly there was some back door "feeling out" of him when Bohn first took the AD job. At the time, all the Varsity Blues stuff was still going on - internally more people in admin positions were involved and fired - and the new President - Carol Folt - was not the least bit interested in bringing someone with Urban's past history into the fold.

Politely, I am not sure you even know what you are trying to argue at this point. Who is recruiting them and to what program? All of the current coaches will be gone at the end of the season, so what does it matter if they are continuing to recruit. They don't even know the system of the next guy or culture, forgetting about the personal relationship. Let's just use Fickell. He is not going to interview, leave, or announce he is leaving until Cincinnati's season is over. Do you think he is telling his current Cincinnati recruits to come with him to a job that he may not agree to? Do you think he is contacting USC's recruits telling them he may come if he likes what he hears in interviews? Do you think current coaches are contacting commits saying Fickell may be the choice but we won't know until December, so stay committed? Unless they hire Bob Stoops or some other coach out of retirement and figure out how to get him to recruit with the limit on coaches, their recruiting process is 100% on hold until they hire the new coach after the regular season ends and they do their interviews.

Thank you. Maybe Fickell leaves before their bowl game if they decide they want him AND HE DECIDES THAT HE WANTS THEM, but there is no way he is quitting his current job midseason to go to USC. Why would he if he knows the job is his if he wants it? All they accomplished is having one less coach for the remainder of the year unless there was something super rotten behind the scenes.

@Rellyrell I feel like you are the resident USC plug. Any thoughts or insight?

Every college fan base is obsessed with Meyer.

I’d wager ND fans are gushing over the ND/Urban connection and the Irish struggling with FSU and Toldeo to open the season. In a few games Kelly will be the all-time winningest HC in ND history, and fans will want him fired. For Meyer.

My gator friends want him to take this job, any job, because they think Urban is coming “home”……..
