Maybe play the entire press conference & Freeman explains that the competition was too close to choose off stats alone. He had to look at all factors, such as leadership, pre-snap reads, making OL adjustments, etc… and that’s why he chose Carr.
Another example of bad “journalists” taking a one minute portion of a 30 minute presser and putting it on twitter out of context.

I did listen to the whole thing.
The first thoughts out of his mouth were hardly a ringing endorsement.
It's not like it was just the one thing, there's clearly doubt in trepidation in his voice. Leadership is great but he's not the leader or even a captain. Pre snap reads and adjustments? Great, good luck with a new DC using different personnel in different fronts with the loudest crowd he's ever played against.
None of it came down to his play.
Just a bunch of platitudes and coach speak.

Look. I'll just say this. In a vacuum, if you told me that a team has a freshman QB that has never thrown a pass, starting his first game on the road against a top 10 team, and wasn't the obvious outright winner of a fall camp QB battle I would say that team should focus on the run. Maybe he goes out there and lights it up. But 95 times of of 100 in college football it doesn't go that way. Maybe this will be one of the 5 times.

Rueban Bain is right up there with Leonard Moore in preseason defensive player rankings. He's going to be chasing the QB all night. Nothing points to this being easy.

You sound upset. Is everything ok?
 
It could be coach speak. He could be saying that to bait Miami staff into thinking one thing and doing the other. He also said what he always says at every press conference: stop the run, play good defense, get some turnovers. I wouldn't read too much into it

I mean it's clearly the best decision for them long term. So I think he made the correct one. Ultimately if they want to have the highest potential for 2025 and 2026 season, it's by Carr stepping up and being a dawg for them.

And honestly I don't think it particularly mattered which choice they made at QB, either one was going to be making their first start and going to be the source of a major advantage for us. I'd probably have preferred to play the other guy and sell out for the run EVEN MORE... But oh well. I think we have to dare Carr to beat us and ensure our CBs aren't falling for double moves or letting up big plays. He seems like he may have a bit of gunslinger mentality, and what we can't let him do is have easy big completions. Hey if we sell out to stop the run and he's just dink and dunking and being patient on us and it's working.... I'd rather lose that way if he came down to it. What I wouldn't want is A) them to beat us by running and B) Beat us by getting big plays in the pass game...

Wait… did you think Sabetta is a journalist, or Fathers Divine?
 
All reports through camp were Minchey played better and was “leading”. Even report of Carr throwing many pics in practices and scrimmages. I followed this battle a decent amount. IMO, it sounded like Carr being picked was more political. He’s the highest rated QB ND has signed. His family. Going with the “underdog” you risk loosing Carr or him checking out.

All that being said, I nor anyone truly know except the people in the locker room and building. But I can’t tell you we will find out Sunday and the season.
 
Been saying it all along. Teams are “relatively” at parity except for QB. Beck is a Day 1 NFL talent in his fifth year vs Carr who is a brand new QB annd isn’t known for accuracy. This isn’t a small gap it is the Grand Canyon of chasms. And QB is so critical a piece to the overall offense that I don’t see how ND overcomes their disadvantage there. We win.
