CJ Bailey needs to come home

Everybody thought Allison was a stud when he was a sophomore in HS. He was balling.

This is about using common sense. We aren't talking about random G5 quarterbacks. This is a dude in our own conference with good numbers, good traits and obvious ties.

Last year, the only three QBs I brought up were Mendoza, Mateer, and Beck. One was consensus (Mateer). The other two generated massive, often emotional pushback. All three made the playoffs.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Take the easy fit.
This thread should be like 3 pages long

What do you guys think of CJ Bailey?

Solid. Wouldn’t hate it. Me neither. Cool. Let’s see.

Only reason I even made that post is because it’s funny to bust eachothers balls and you can handle it. It’s just what guys do when conversations have gotten so absurd it needs some humor

I’m old enough to remember everyone hating basically every option last year and it’s the same thing this year

All I know is we will win a lot of games with a lot of these options and we will get a good one

**** Ohio State

You’re all good. I LOLed before digging through the crates for that Kaaya post.

I really don’t know who we want. It’s like the nuclear codes right now. But this is my story and I’m sticking to it.

I seem to remember a story that JKS was originally wanting to commit to Cal but decided to go to Oregon because there was tension coming from Mendoza, maybe during recruiting trip? So when Mendoza transferred out, that is why JKS switched to Cal.

I might be completely wrong, but that is what I seem to remember about JKS and Cal.
I think you’re right. But as I’ve said, I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t go to Oregon. They’ll make him the richest QB in the country.

I genuinely laughed out loud at your dunk joke

I’m a happy guy now for that

I remember having a bit of the same frustration last year because no one seemed good enough. Mateer was the most universal and he really didn’t beat the world this year (though I still like his potential with Dawson)

I was bullish on Sorsby when he was younger and cheaper but I’m hesitant now

Someone might be able to dunk me 10 years from now for this but I think Nickel is gonna push whoever it is

NC State played the easier part of the conference.

But if you REALLY want to play this game, I think we played 3 of the same oppoonents (so that takes out the disaster of the game he had against us) and just focus on the actual common opponents

Notre Dame, Pitt and VT

Beck has 9-1 td/int ratio, 70/91 (77%) for 790 yards,
3-0 record, 33 ppg

Bailey has 6-3 td/int ratio, 67/94 (70%) for 851yards
0-3 record, 20 ppg

My point is this, Beck has the one dud (SMU wasn’t on him) but he’s been better than given credit for.
Betting on Bailey is a major bet on him taking sizable leaps if we are to maintain momentum as a team.

We will find out soon enough and like i said, it seems like a foregone conclusion that it’s going to be Bailey.
Don't think there's a notable difference between their performaces in those games when you consider some context. Beck played on a much better team. Beck is 4 years older than Bailey. Bailey played Notre **** in South Bend. Was really the only bad performance in those 3 games. NC St couldn't protect Bailey (9 sacks in those 3 games vs 3 against Beck), and their defense couldn't stop anyone from scoring (37 ppga vs 16 for us).

Bailey isn't my first (or second choice), but I've come around to the idea that he'd be a solid high floor option here, and potentially could make a big leap.

I want a 1 year rental with Coleman taking over the following year. That dude is special IMO. Most important addition for us this offseason is to find an OC on par with Heatherman. Dawson is sub par, and Wel be doing ourselves an injustice by retaining him.

Another factor i keep in mind, is Bailey is young. College players progress, and a lot of times, the third year is when there is a big jump. The Bailey you saw this year at NC State is not a finished product. He is way younger than the Ward or Beck we got, so his room for improvement is much higher.

Additionally, Bailey whether you like his production or not, has every physical tool an NFL GM would want. Big, strong Arm, can move. Thats a high ceiling player.

Like I said, don’t expect him to win those matchups, but deer in headlights look is not something that just instantly goes away.

He’s not my 1st-4th option but I think he can be successful here, but I think you absolutely have to surround him with another legit WR1a to pair with Toney.

There are other qbs out there that I would say if you bring them, you don’t have to get that extra WR.

And that type of wr is JJ, TJ or Duff or Marsh.

Add me to the accuracy list...Look what Miami did to mobile QBs this season. There will always be defenses and schemes to neutralize running QBs....

a&m season just ended because their QB could not run and he is not that accurate....THANK YOU FITZ 13....

The ability to move will NEVER be a negative.

how about Duke? a 7-5 team
Mestemaker wouldve likely struggled against them too if we're beig real. BTW I think both Mestermaker & Bailey would be good takes for next year, but im not seeing one being this huge slam dunk over the other like yall making mestemaker out to be. While i think Bailey is the more proven prospect at this point between the 2 They are exactly the same tier for me, which is they both have have the talent/potential to elevate their game by being at a playoff contending program like Miami but have question marks.

Unfortunately, there is some truth to this. The kid has a skill set, but it hasn’t been tapped into or exploited. He comes here he’s a project not a QB1. We already have projects with our recruits. I have said this before, without a dedicated QB coach all the potential in the world is just that.. potential. I’ve gotten s**t for it, but it’s necessary. A coach is just that, coaching, about reads, progressions, release points/angles, repetitions and muscle memory, footwork. This is what coaches do. OC’s deal with philosophy and schemes, X/O’s . Can’t expect results if the roadwork hasn’t been done, by coaches.
Sounds like youre saying our backups are on the same level as a guy who has started two years in the ACC and actually put up Good numbers

Assuming Sorsby is a lock for TTU/NFL, I have Hoover/Leavitt/Raiola in my first tier. Sounds like we are convinced Hoover is going to IU, so I guess he's out.

I would take Bailey over Mestemaker. They are both potentially 2 yr guys, but Mestemaker is risky af (with craaaaazy upside potential, tbf). Mestemaker hasn't thrown a pass against a P4 team, and threw 6 INTs against the 2 best G5 teams he played against. No one knows whether Mestemaker is a starting P4 QB. Mensah had games against Kansas State and Oklahoma last year before he portalled; Mestemaker didn't have any P4 tests.

Fwiw, my dream scenario is that Freeman takes an NFL job, DeBoer goes to ND, and we get Ty Simpson in the portal, but I don't know if that's gonna be possible with the calendar.

This right here. I also like the idea of having a QB to sell that will be here for more than 1 year.

Totally off topic, but in a coup years Freeman to the Steelers makes so much sense.
