CJ Bailey needs to come home

He is behind him for two reasons: redshirt and Emory has game experience. If Beck goes down for the season, we find out who is qb 2 within 1 week.
And? He's most likely a bust as are just about all HS QB's. We had just a couple in 25 years. I have PTSD from all that. Way prefer a CJ Bailey that we know has potential. Freshman from Cal also starting to struggle some. Finding a QB may not be so clear as we've had it the last 2 times.

It will be a lot cheaper to develop our own QB tho. THat's the advantage. Can spend on WR's etc.

I just posted a long list of potential QBs in the portal thread. There will be more than enough that have good stats and experience. Bailey maybe one looking but he won’t be the only. Dawson has shown he can find QBs and Miami has shown they are willing to pay.

That's not necessarily a huge red flag five games into his true freshman season.
I never said it did. However if I am going with a HS QB to start his first game in 2026 against probably Notre Dame in their house, I need to see something pretty impressive rather than just being 3rd string behind a bum.

Luke isn’t our starter in 26 and Coleman isn’t. We are going to land another top shelf portal QB. Then we likely have Luke year 3, Coleman year 2, Lawrence year 1 heading into 2027. We will know if Coleman or Luke are starter material for 27. If not, portal yet again or we have a 2 year kid that comes back for 27.

Ur #1 choice is having a far worse season than CJ Bailey. CJ is better than a good chunk of them.

OK, and I see lists of 'top portal qbs' and I am comparing stats, CJ Bailey is in the mix. Like it or not, that's going to be the type of QB we will be going after. The kid from Washington looks promising tho.

Game managers made it to the title game and one won. I dont watch any of these other QBs to be honest, but acting like a QB cant have a bad game or it means they were never any good is remedial thinking.
I don’t think a game manager is a bad thing honestly. That’s the QBs job. And I never said that QBs can’t have bad game

Leavitt - check his 2024 stats when he had a run game to help him. Now project that to Miami. I also like the UNT kid as QB2 if Luke isn’t starter material. I believe he would be less $$ than the other freshman as he is raw with some mechanics issues,

Every winning QB is a game manager. Great QBs are just game managers who can do more.

Mendoza, as a Heisman candidate and first rounder on a Top 5 team, is a great college QB. That’s not a debate anywhere outside this board.

Bailey, we’ll see. To me, what separates him from others is his combination of youth, experience and tools. He’s started since his true freshman year and knows how to manage the game. But he’s also a true sophomore with time to grow. At 6’6 with a great arm and good wheels, I think he would flourish in a strong environment (as Mendoza has) and move on to the NFL.

But there will be other candidates and nobody knows how it will turn out.

What is your opinion on Luke? Does he end up fighting for the starter role at some point.

I think our starter comes from the Portal next year.
Not surprised but still disappointing. Maybe this is just the way in college football going forward. My view is that MC and his coaches have to start developing the QBs they recruit but if he can take the best QB from the portal every year I guess that’s also a strategy.

This. Mario isn’t giving the keys to Luke or Emory. Emory will transfer and you’ll fight to keep Luke but this machine is going to get a top end QB. W

ESTO ^^^^^

Recruit over EVERYONE. This is PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL.

If a kid is lucky enough to be recruited as a HS QB, and lands on a D1 squad, they have to prove they are the best.

Gone are the days of Football Johnny, and the tickle-me, feel-good All American student athlete bull****.

They wanted to be paid; they wanted NIL; they got it.

MC is in the winning by all means necessary business, by hook or crook, critics be damned.

Dawson didn’t have to find ward and beck. They were kind of big names
