Chris Hummer calls Canes DL best in the country.

We’re actually discussing football. Yes

And I do think Silvera and Ford can take that next step this upcoming season. Regardless, our third down packages are going to be ridiculous.
I certainly can't **** you for your optimism and enthusiasm. Our third down packages should be ridiculous! However, that 3 man front with Rousseau in the middle on 3rd and long is a phucking abomination that needs to be thrown in the scrap heap and never seen again. Not trying to hate on the man but I just don't trust Baker to get the most out of these players on defense. There were far too many things about the defense last year that I found concerning and even disturbing. With the talent Baker has returning especially the front 4 Baker has zero excuse not to field a very good and at times dominant defense. I'm extremely confident that if Baker craps the bed this season he is gonzo as he should be.

This may just be wishful thinking on my part, but I think Manny calls the shots on defense for now on. Manny knows its win big or go home this year. Probably didnt want to fire his OC and DC after 1 year and have everyone see he didnt know wtf he was doing with those hires. His career depends on this season. Hed be stupid if he left it in Bakers hands

If it hadn't been Iowa State's Kolar for TE they would have chosen Pitts. LOL I wouldn't trade Brevin for BOTH Kolar and Pitts.

Well I think Miami should make the list in a few other categories.

QB- might be only 3 QBs in the country I'd trade King for. Can't really think of a better QB to match the talent level of the OL (average). To be honest, I don't know that Trevor Lawrence would be an upgrade over King as Miami's QB given the OL situation.

RB- I think vastly underrated. But I'll concede other teams might have more established production.

TE- Miami should be #1. I don't think any of the other names mentioned are more talented than Brevin Jordan.

Agree 100%. I've watched the guy from Iowa ST. and I'll take Mallory over him in a heartbeat. Brevin is the best TE in football period.

Two men: Lashlee and Justice. They hold the key to our season. If they do their jobs, our offense flourishes which then takes a sh*t ton of pressure off our Defense. It's so much easier and more fun to take the field as a defensive player when you know your O can put points on the board at will and you don't have to play lights out each and every game in order to have a chance to win.

Our D was far from elite last year, and then you compound the issue with that sh*t excuse of an offense that Enos ran and you end up with 6-7.

Open the O, and our D will play loose, fast and fearless and tee off on teams. Get the **** offense right and the defense will take care of itself.

Think about this for a second. If our offense didn't go 3 and out just about every play how much better would our Defense have looked? Go look at the top 5 D's in the country and compare their offense ranking compared to ours. You might be surprised.

In order for our d-line to be the best, our DT’s need to take that next step. Time for Ford and Silvera to dominate. They are upperclassmen.

Holley coming to take one of their spots. Kid can dance but he's an even better DT. No Joke

There's promise at DT, but needs to be production. I still don't see the fast twitch DT that collapses pockets like Willis did. Maybe you're right that they'll use 3 DEs to accomplish the same outcome, but if so, McCloud/Joyner/Brooks better manage the midfield and not allow explosive plays. Much better if the DTs can get it done.

It's not fast twitch but rather brute grown man strength Combined with hand fighting techniques that consistently collapses the pocket from up the middle, which is the shortest route to meeting at the QB ( big shout out to coach Kool), hence the need for UM to both sign and develop war daddy's at DT. Gerald Willis won his reps mostly on grown man strength combined with superior techniques.

Our interior guys production has dropped off because they have lost that technical component and often play with high hats ( losing leverage) and don't use a wide variety of dline moves but rather often revert to a bull rush (Nesta and Ford I am talking to ya'll, you can do better an have been taught as much by Coach Simpson and Coach Kool).

It's sad that some our SFL players had to work with an outside dline coach this spring to learn additional moves.

Coach Stroud hopefully took the off season to expand and modernize his coaching tool box. To think he was up in Ohio all those years and could have drove over to Columbus an get some tips from one of the best Dline coaches EVER and if he did spend sometime with coach Johnson then coach Stroud needs to find his notebook from those sessions.

Go Canes

He should feel the pressure. We are better than *every* coastal team. Our offensive line should go from the worst in the entire FBS to average/mid-tier, we have a kicker (Baxa cost us 2 games last year), our defensive is littered with speed and length, and most importantly- we have a game changer at QB. I believe in Lashlee but I will say, it may hard installing a brand new offensive with little practice time. Luckily we start out with 3 games we should absolutely win. I have us losing to MSU and V-Tech but something tells me there is one more loss in there somewhere...

MSU....... LOL They are not good. They lost 6 games last year and lost a bunch of good players. I'm not worried about that game at all. Our DL is going to kill them.

"The Michigan State offense could use a fresh set of ideas. Jay Johnson takes over after running Mel Tucker’s Colorado offense last season, and he inherits a veteran bunch that turned the ball over way too often, couldn’t run the ball nearly as well as it should have, and ended up averaging just 372 yards and 22 points per game.

It all starts with a line that was beaten up throughout all of last season. The offense couldn’t get into much of a groove when game after game there were new parts up front, but at least the experience is in place."

No doubt we've got talent. Hopefully the coaching is MUCH better this year and we can be a very relevant football team (and program).
Go Canes!

All eyes on Baker.... this will make or break his coaching career

Please Coach Baker No more dropping 1st round draft pick D-ends into coverage while you blitz safety's from 10yd away. Or running twists that run your D-ends into double team blocks, rather then leaving them in one on one situations on the outside.

Go Canes

King, I 100% agree with. Given the offensive line, I’m not sure I’d rather have Lawrence even though he is the better quarterback. King’s escapability is a premium skill with our sub par line talent.

The only proven commodity we have at running back is Harris. He’s been good but not great in a part time role. Chaney and Knighton MIGHT be superstars but they’ve proven nothing so far.

Brevin Jordan is hands down the best TE in the nation. His only weakness is health. Will Mallory is the nation’s best 2nd team tight end. He was all conference caliber in the games he started when Jordan got hurt.
