Chris Hummer calls Canes DL best in the country.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn; all these articles coming out is putting so much pressure on Manny. He's going to get killed, not by us, but the media if we underachieve this season. We're getting tons of love, and we should b/c we have a weak schedule, playing w/in a weak conference, and have talent....real talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We should be meeting at the QB every game.

He should get killed if we underachieve. Miami has better football players across the board than pretty much every single team they play, especially at the 2 most important spots (QB and EDGE). If you can’t beat other teams when you have the better players, it means you’re a ****** coach and you deserve all the heat that comes your way. He has ZERO excuses this year.

What do you guys think of Silvera for this year? Year 3 is when the superstars typically take that next step in the interior. Does he have a quick enough step to get to that elite status we thought he might coming out of HS?
He started off 2019 with a broken foot (I think it was) so that was difficult for him and his development I’m sure. I’ll be honest- I thought he was a bit overrated coming out of high school. Based on his ranking. I believe 247 had him as the 2nd best DT in the country? A tad high. But I think he can be a very good DT for us and the way he played against FSU last year was nuts... He really showed what he can potentially be. Which is an all conference type of player.

His posts are insane.. so much info, straight to the point, analytical. My type of guy. There’s one guy on here who clearly posts just for likes and he gets them lol. I want to talk ball.
Yeah, you’ve gotta separate football and information posters from others. There are different people doing different things on here. LCE, gogeta4, hoyacane, Cribby, Boxing Robes, Zbrod95 and some others... they all bring a good amount of meat to the board.

I forgot Cribby! He’s been one of my favorites as well. I’m missing others as well. Amazing info..

And I do think Silvera and Ford can take that next step this upcoming season. Regardless, our third down packages are going to be ridiculous.
Now all we had to do is stop a 3rd and 10 or a 4th and 17. Overall, we were 42 in defensive 3rd down conversion (37%) and 123 in 4th down conversion (70%).

Oh my goodness, the 4th downs last year were so bad! The 3rd downs were just okay. I felt we had a good defense last year but not a great one- not as good as the defenses Manny was commanding in 2016, 17 and 18. I think Baker overthought a lot last year and perhaps wanted to show how smart he was? Doesn’t have to be that complicated- majority of games we play, we have the superior athletes. Keep it simple. Our length and our athleticism for 2020 are as good as we’ve had here in a while.

I believe he was the #3 DT in the nation; but he started off as a 3 star and shot up the rankings, no doubt due to him getting a gang of exposure on a loaded AH team that was the crown jewel of high school football that season. Plus he dominated at camps, and his mouth got him attention as well. He had a great Sr season.

BUT, he never developed any other moves, and I think many of us here said that if he don’t develop other pass rush moves, it’s not going to work, b/c all bull rush is not going to work against young to grown men on the OL. He seems to get stymied a lot, even against lower level competition. Hopefully he takes the next step in his development; if not.....he may be in the category of one of our biggest bust. I think he does; he look to have put in individual work this off season.

Imagine when Cam has a line that can open a hole!

Imagine the natural running lanes from the wider splits.

Imagine a hurry up system that allows the oc to call plays on look rather than script or preference.

Imagine when teams can’t cheat the run because the short passing game is used on first down. No RRPP Richt or playaction Enos and their predictability.

Imagine teams having to respect the qb keeper on the zone read.

Cam is going to LIGHT IT UP. If it wasn’t for coronavirus ruining spring I would predict over 1300 yards from Cam. He will get 1000 if he stays healthy.

Our poor coaching and predictable playcalling make us underestimate how good he is. DJ got huge runs breaking tackles. That ain’t Cam. Cam just needs a crease and he will SHRED you. Kid will have a high ypc this year.

Jordan miller and the corner opposite blades hold the key to our defense in their hands

Miller is going to be all conference if he is in shape.

He has completely transformed his body, Hopefully he has shed more fat to get the added stamina.

If that is the case, he will be collapsing the pocket all year.

I think Nesta makes a third year leap with a healthy foot. Ford is the question mark. If he plays to his size we will have a special group.

He should feel the pressure. We are better than *every* coastal team. Our offensive line should go from the worst in the entire FBS to average/mid-tier, we have a kicker (Baxa cost us 2 games last year), our defensive is littered with speed and length, and most importantly- we have a game changer at QB. I believe in Lashlee but I will say, it may hard installing a brand new offensive with little practice time. Luckily we start out with 3 games we should absolutely win. I have us losing to MSU and V-Tech but something tells me there is one more loss in there somewhere...
Agree that VT could very well be a D. However, MSU should be a W. They lost a lot of really good players off a 7-6 team and they have a brand new coach.

You Miller fans writing off Ford?

Didn’t see as much from Ford as I like to from 3rd year players.

Miller was collapsing the pocket often but kept getting pulled. Had people speculating stamina issues, but with this staff you never know.

I think Ford has physical tools. If he plays with leverage and aggression, he will take this defense to the next level
