Chris Graves(nothing bad)

Porter will probably start opposite Rique.

Graves is the most talented CB on the roster.

Barring injury, Clarke is never going to start over Graves.

Rodgers needs significant time to rehab his injury.
SMH. This is the kind of people you don’t need to talk about football or the vaccine with.

People are always delusional about freshmen. CB especially is tough for any non-Surtain caliber player to just walk into a starting spot.

And I really like Graves, but CB2 and "not close"? come on OP
Things you want at Cb are length, speed, hip flexibility, playmaker on the ball and confidence.

Looking at his film, he check all of those for me.

I'll bite. Other than not having yet had the chance to be ripped apart by our fanbase, what makes Graves "the most talented CB on the roster"?
Best film, best measurables, highest ceiling, and the youngest. Played against very good high school competition and was consistently the best player on the field.

Despite the rankings, is Graves that much better than Khamauri Rogers? And if so why?

Y’all really just love shiny new things lol. No way Graves starts over Clarke lol. And I don’t know how or why you came to that conclusion. Even Khamauri Rogers, who’s currently on campus, will not start over Clarke. Believe it or not, and you’ll see it later, but Clarke may be UMs best CB. Even at 5’10 180s.
Since we guessing.
Stevenson/Blades/Couch/Graves
Porter/Clarke/Ivey/Rodgers

A. Williams/Jim Williams/Kam/Markeith Wms (RS?)

I don't know who winds up being CB2, but I agree it won't be a freshman. Aside from making mistakes, freshman usually don't have enough physicality to be a starter year 1.

I'm expecting Blades to make a big comeback. Who knows what Ivey does. He could surprise or wind up in the Portal. I do like Marcus Clark. He should get a lot of PT.

I see the veterans starting early especially against TAMU and our 1st ACC game. So, for me I see:
CB1 - Stevenson/Ivey/Graves
CB2 - Blades/Clark/Rodgers
Nickel - Porter/Couch

CB is one of the few positions where TF’s come in & play & have success.

Denzel Burke & Duce Chestnut were TF All-Americans last year at CB, Dwight McGlothern played really well for LSU last year too & before that in 2020 Enis Rakestraw, Eli Ricks, Emmanuel Forbes & Karon Prunty were all very good Corners their TF season.

However, it’s just unlikely that Graves walks in as a Summer Enrollee & takes a starting job unless the guys ahead of him get hurt or are simply terrible.

The TF CB that is being slept on is Jaden Harris, he’s gonna get good reps for Spring camp & will have an opportunity to play his way into the 2-deep.

Everything will depend on whether or not we have a fair & open competition, if everything is a clean slate & there are no prohibited favorites there’s a number of CB’s who could play this year, but if the upperclassmen have a leg up due to”eXpEriEnCe” then the top 4 will remain Stevenson, Ivey, Porter & Blades, with guys like Couch & Clarke rotating in.

We’ll see how much different things are after Spring if we see any CB’s hitting the Portal.

I’m guessing Ivey & Porter will play a lot, but I’m hoping Harris & Graves will be able to play & have an impact.

I also am enamored by Clark's potential. He had his ups and downs last year with the rough spots being pretty rough. That was a valuable learning experience for Clark as the defense had many issues last year. This spring/summer/fall will be huge for Clark in that he must show the ability to develop and take the next step. The coaching had been dramatically upgraded and that will only help him. The bottom line is how he deals with what looks to be a very competitive spring. Lots of kids vying for playing time and starting spots. Let's see who rises to the top.

Graves is young. I believe he played some of his senior season at age 16.

A redshirt year would be a good idea for development.
Usually I would agree but if Graves can make the top 4 then you must play him. The thing is that will be difficult even for a prospect like Graves.

I hear ya, but I'm still bullish on clarke/Curtis tandem. Nonetheless, these are great conversations to have.
Everyone seems to forget about Malik Curtis in this discussion. Even I forgot about him until you brought it up. There will be a good amount of competition the off-season at CB. We way be a bit better than what had been thought before. As long as it is an honest competition and I have no reason to think it won't be we may be surprised at the play from this position. Pass Rush will be crucial.

Jaden Harris won’t enroll until the summer. Only freshman DB on campus is Khamari

this ...☝️

yes, outstanding freshmen can start at CB, but not becuause they are tremendous athletes.

they play IF they understand the mental and technical aspects of the game. graves is a great athlete. so is K-rogers. heck, even some of the second years like marcus clarke and malik curtis have got great feet. but none of them will mean a lick on the field unless they have it between the ears and can master each of the components of CB play:

from the objective of the coverage, to the WR release, to the stem, to the tops of the routes, and the catch point. it's multiple "phases" to "staying in phase," each with its own subtleties and techniques and mental challenges. for example, when he and the WR are at the catch point, does Graves know where to put his posting (on side) hand based on the route? it's different for say a 9 route down the field vs a 4 route curl. the trajectory of the ball, the time it's in the air, are different so how you'd use your hands, and which one, is also different. does he get that? because when you're playing in the scheme of a team defense, in real tackle football, and not some 7 on 7 candyland play date, it has zilch to do with who can run the fastest and jump the highest. it's why LCE noted Jaden Harris. he's probably got as much polish as any of the incoming freshmen, in my view, so he could be one to watch.

point is, they need to be coached up, and get their opportunities. just don't be surprised if the ones who earn reps early, are ones you may not expect.

Lmao let the kid get on campus first before crowning him the second coming.

Outside of Stevenson every Manny Diaz CB on the roster is beatable
