Charlier Strong and Texas

People like lauderdaleballer are why we hired Randy Shannon instead of Gary Patterson.

Patterson was never seriously interested in Miami. He has always said he was happy building his program at TCU. It is amusing to see all the badgering back and forth with no facts. Texas the year before Strong came had NO PLAYERS drafted so the talent was not there. He walked into disciplinary problems and had to dismiss many starters and then his QB had to retire because of health issues. I don't know how good he is but Texas boosters never wanted him for the same reason Bull gators didn't and that was because of his interracial marriage. I do think with right assistants he would be a big upgrade over what we have now. Please badmouth me as I have to laugh at all the supposed fans here who weren't even born when I started going to Canes games in 1963 and don't know anything about Canes football existence before 1980.
On one of his shows, Omar Kelley said Patterson was interested, but UM wanted to pay him 70cents on the dollar. I remember if that was before Randy or Golden.

Why do you need to defend Strong?

Because I watched him coach before Texas.

And what was so impressive about playing a joke schedule with a bunch of Clint Hurtt recruits?

Clint Hurtt didn't land **** under Shannon. His recruiting efforts in 2010 were the worst I've ever seen at Miami.

Strong is the reason that roster was loaded with NFL players. As for the schedule, they beat every Power 5 team they played those last two years, including a Top 10 Florida team.

It's funny how he doesn't credit for Bridgewater. He recruited him to a program like Louisville. And I wish I could pull the old threads argng with Miami fans about how "soft" Teddy would do at the college level.

You dont hasve to i FULLY remember from GRASSY...

And a lot of guys are on CIS right now who were going to war with me and you over TEDDY B. Calling the kid Jacory, he was "soft"..had a fluke arm...I was telling preople about Teddy B when he was a SOPH at NW.

Strong is a good coach...He would do well here with a good oc running his offense....Im quite sure our defense would really be up to par with him with these SAME kids golden cant do sh*t with. He pretty much knows the teams were playing over here in the acc.

I dont know if he were to get fired he would be on my top 5 -10 list..

The bolded portion of your post is part of why I'd be very, very nervous about hiring Strong immediately after a colossal failure at UT. What exactly is his offense? And how can anyone have any faith whatsoever in Strong hiring the right OC after he retained Shawn Watson, who's entire resume revolved around operating a slow-paced pro-style West Coast offense, to teach the up-tempo spread he wanted to implement? That was monumentally stupid and it predictably backfired.

Strong's harebrained decision to retain Watson was a classic example of square peg, round hole. He wanted to change his offense's identity to adapt to their recruiting base and was clueless as to how to go about it. He demoted Watson just one game into the season. Some praised him at the time for being quick to make a change, but he caused that entire mess to begin with.

Disagree.

Strong was set up for failure. He is done after this season and Miami would be fools to pass on him

Yep. And the thing is he went in to Texas with no idea about anyone on the team, a QB battle, and terrible depth. He would come to Miami with a franchise QB, Jack Allison after that, with Shireffs and Rosier as well to compete. (If people think he needed Teddy to win at UL, well now hes got Brad) He would also have 12 deep on OL returning, Coley, Berrios, Cager, Lewis at WR, all 4 legit weapons at TE, a stable of 4 RBs returning (if you include Gus) as well as some solid ones in 2016 class.

He would have Chad, AQM, Moten, Jenkins, Norton, Willis, etc on DL. I think Burns and Corn would stay another year with Strong to learn from a real coach and that would make a good secondary too. Only issue is LB, but Shaq and Zach are coming in to go along with Grace, Young, etc.

He would come into Miami much better off, know a lot of guys on the roster, and no question marks at QB is the biggest difference he would have here vs Texas.

You rattle off these names like it means anything or proves your point. Outside of Brad and a few other players, we hype these players up so much based on what "our" media has to say about them during the spring or fall camp. Someone mentioned this before on a different thread that maybe most of these players are mediocre in the eyes of the outside world, but we have the blinders bc we drink the Kool aid that is given to us by the Golden backers in the media. I don't think we have elite talent on this team outside of Brad and maybe Yearby by the way he has been playing this year. Outside of that, we are average, slow on both sides of the ball, just garbage.

It's not the players! Just look at Michigan and Florida. Those two teams stunk last year. Basically the same players and now both teams in top 20!

Give me a new coaching staff with newfound energy, ideas, excitement, and better coaching!!!

I keep saying it, Strong was a one hit wonder. It's actually amazing how bad of a job him and his staff are doing at Texas. It isn't just the losses, it's how they're losing. He lost that team in his first season. You really almost have to try to lose at Texas like this or a just a terrible coach.

Charlie Strong is a terrible coach and if you can't see that you need to remove whatever shades you are wearing. Bobby Petrino isn't winning games because Strong left him with crap. I don't have the threads but I remember Strong and Hurt using the race card to recruit players to Louisville so they could play for a black coach.

Second stop with the "recruiting Miami guys" crap. South Florida isn't the only area that produces NFL players. A matter of FACT GA produced more per person than Florida did last year and by a wide margin

Florida has the most former high school football players taken in 2015 NFL Draft - High School Football America

Texas was 3rd with 27 and UT has always been the big school in Texas. Texas got hammered by a defense that only had a few starters from the previous season and had 6 projected starters out.TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech are proving their is enough talent in the state of Texas to win and they recruit the left overs from Texas. Charlie Strong is terrible coach that used race and whatever Clint Hurt was offering to get key players who turned out better than most people would have ever imagined. Had his other classes been that good Bobby Petrino would be winning more games.

You can't say Strong was left with crap and that is why he is struggling without saying the exact same for Petrino who has proved he can win at multiple stops.

UT Recruiting Ranks (247sports)

didnt strong get rid of like half the rosters at UT also?

Strong is not a fit for texas kids. different kind of football they play.

How so?

Lets be real here. Strong got rid of these kids to paint a picture that Texas didn't have the right players and he needed a lot of time to fix it. Perhaps he took it out of the Al Golden playbook.

Chip Kelly has done the same with the Eagles.

Are we really comparing the NFL with the NCAA?

LOL what does that even mean?

That state is loaded with talent.

Baylor, TCU, and Houston were killing it with 3-star type recruits. Now, those schools like are receiving commitments from 5-stars. A&M is cleaning up in Texas, LA, and nationally. When Mack Brown was the head coach, most of the other top in-state recruits were considering Texas before any of the other in-state colleges. The other in-state schools stepped up their game. A&M and Baylor had a Heisman winner. TCU&Baylor now go to BCS bowl games. A&M can now sell playing in the SEC. Also, these schools can show kids how in recent drafts, that going to Texas doesn't mean that you'll go to the NFL. The competition for the top in-state talent is nowhere near as easy as it was for Mack Brown. He's not going to bring in elite national kids with them sucking and having the media discuss the possibility of him losing his job. He tried to get some kids from SFL, but most of those kids are JAGs, other than Tim Irvin.
