Charlie Strong

He will go somewhere like NC State and do a good job.

You're still sticking to this point. Unless he has some great QB, I beg to differ. The way his defenses were awful and UT, what is the appeal?

Is he going to out coach UL, FSU and/or Clemson?

I think his defenses will be good, like they have been throughout his career. Texas was the outlier.

Or when the competition was better and the talent was similar (less of a discrepancy), he looked like a corch.

He had elite defenses in the SEC.

So we dismiss the recent product and focus on a period of time that was 8 years ago, understood. How could his defenses be SO atrocious at UT?

D$ we all remember those times. They were a long time ago and things change. If you're asking me can he still be a good DC, I would say maybe.

If you're asking me if he can be the HC of a P5 program and have actual success, I would say no.

Side note: I read on ESPN bottom line that he has the worst HC record in UT history (W/L %).

Ask Manny Diaz.

Actually much worse under Strong.

Last 2 years have been levels UT has never seen before.

Serious question: What coaches do you like, not named Saban or Meyer?

You don't like Richt, don't like Strong. And I'm not looking to debate you ... I'm just curious.

Were/are you a Butch Davis guy?

IMO, every coach, not named Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh are going to have glaring flaws on their resume.

Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, Patterson, Peterson, Niumatalolo, Whittingham, Gundy, Herman, Fuente, Dantonio all do a good job overall. Probably a bunch more that I'm forgetting.

Don't hate Richt, just not my type of coach. Wouldn't call myself a Butch guy but think he deserve credit for what he built at Miami.

If I'm looking for a coach, I want:

1. A savage, someone who literally can't stand losing
2. An innovator, elite Xs and Os on one side of the ball

Fair points.

And I assume you think Richt should have done more with the talent he had at UGA, just as Strong should have done better with his roster at Texas.

No argument from me.

it makes me think butch is just chillin on the literal "sidelines" to see how this richt thing works out

like 2 ships sailing next to each other yet there's a "madman" on the side of one waving a flag saying "I'M OVER HERE IF YOU NEED SOMETHING.. I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE BY THE WAY"

I know he hasn't won at Texas, but is 3 years enough to considere his tenure a failure? What do these boosters/fans expect?

The success Nick Saben has had at Alabama has made a lot of people (especially in the SEC and Texas overall) delusional. It usually takes more than 3 years to build a program.

Having said that, I don't have much of an opinion on Charlie Strong's coaching abilities.
