Charlie Strong

I want Herman #1 and have since late last year. Cat has now done it with 5 consecutive QBs and came back from 20 down against a very solid Memphis team to win with character and toughness. He puts points up, gets turnover, and his teams are tough. We need this guy NOW.

I also wonder if among Strong or Mark Stoops or others whether these guys not only get fired but become a coordinator again (Muschamp e.g.) at a good program to rebuild before they try another hC gig. If so, we could get a very good DC in either Strong or Mark Stoops.

Strong would not be my first choice, but he would be a good choice. Texas has had 1 relevant season in 20 years. It is not like he was taking over Alabama and running it into the ground. That program was not at a sustained high level. Mack Brown was slowly eroding that program over the last decade +. He lucked up and had one good season on the back of a 1 year wonder at QB. Strong should have never taken that job. Texas fans are more delusional than Canes fans to a degree. That was a program already on the down slope (much like when Shannon took over for Coker) when Strong got there. Anyone who thought he was going to turn that around in 2 years is not paying attention.
The same situation applies here ... the ONLY person who can turn around this mess in 2 years is Butch. He is the only one who knows the landscape and effect immediate change that will translate into quick improvement. Not championships, but real, sustainable improvement. Any other candidate is going to have to given more time to right the ship. Not Al Golden kind of time, but time.

Bad fit....blah blah blah....deserves more time....blah blah blah.... is rebuilding....blah blah blah....

Strong has like the 55th rated 2016 recruiting class. So is the argument that he just needs more time at Texas or is it that he's just a bad fit there?

He walked into a bad situation. The fan base is koo koo for coco puffs and the national perception of that program is way higher than the actual product itself. I am not saying he is the greatest coach in the world, but I would judge him more off what he did at Louisville than his current gig.

HE ***ING REGRESSED. Does this mean anything?

Mack Brown was winning 8-9 games his last 3 years. Charlie can't finish with a winning record. In fact, in year 2 when there should be some improvement, he is losing more games and his defense is regressing.

He needs more time to have a winning season.

This "bad situation" excuse should only disqualify him faster. Ohhhh, the fan expectations! Ohhh, the boosters demand I field a respectable product after they give me unlimited resources! Ohhh, the pressure is just too great in Austin!!

Sounds like a great fit for here, huh? We not only provide the high fan expectations but we'll give him limited resources too!!!! But he can croot South Florida. I'm sold.

I know people keep saying he walked into a bad situation, and maybe so, but recordwise it wasn't worse than Louisville.

10-3, 12-1, 13-1, 5-7, 8-5, 9-4, 8-5 in Mack's last 7 years
9-4, 11-1, 9-3, 12-1, 6-6, 5-7, 4-8 in the 7 Petrino/Kragthorpe years

If you can't win at Texas, you can't win at Miami.

I am not saying he should be our top choice. But you can't really compare Louisville and Texas. Louisville played in a crappier conference when he got there. When Mack stepped down he was on the verge of getting fired .... with unlimited resources. The Big 12 was in the process of getting much better and Texas was lagging behind. I look at what Strong did at Louisville as proof the guy can coach. He took 3 star guys that nobody else wanted and taught them to beat big boy programs. And before anyone says "well Texas has big boy talent and he can't win" .... ask yourself .... do they REALLY??? To me, they are just like USC and Notre Dame. A LOT of the guys that go there and commit there are rated higher than their talent level simply because they committed to Texas. Arkansas has unlimited resources and they suck ... money isn't everything.

Do you want to take the chance?
Here's what we have on Charlie Strong
When he had Clint Hurtt recruiting illegally he was able to get to 11 wins in a bad conference.
When he doesn't have him, he has a terrible recruiting class and can't get to a winning season in a decent conference.

That's not a resume, I'm going to bet on. If he turns it around later sure, but there are too many other coaches available to even look at him.

Yep. If he was under consideration, it needs to end.

Perhaps he is a solid coach, but it's puzzling how poorly he's doing at a premier program. There is no way Texas is that low in talent at the moment.

No gracias...

Another shellacking for Charlie Weak Sauce. I'm becoming increasingly worried that not only will he be available but that he already knows he's done in Austin- thus allowing for serious contact already from us. It'd all work out a little too cute for Texas too. Strong gets to resign but for another job and they don't have to take the (unwarranted) criticism for having canned his overrated ***.

Huh? He beat 1 top 25 team in his last 2 years at UL, he also lost to Syracuse, UConn, UCF in those 2 years.

The excuses for Strong are amazing.

This. Says it all in a nutshell.

I just can't conceive why anyone wants Strong, or why he is even under remote consideration, considering what is happening at Texas.

Keep Charlie Strong far away from this program. His head coaching career is a classic smoke and mirrors resume
