Change is Gonna Come...

The names I’ve heard to replace Stroud are all upgrades. I just heard another and it was Jess Simpson and they came to me when they saw the footballscoop article that Stroud is done. He’s interested.

But we may be shooting higher than that. Depends where the co-dc fits in. If it’s at DB - Jess could be a candidate. If it’s at DL - I wouldn’t count on it
And in this scenario does bringing in a co-dc mean that Baker is gone?

See, this is the key to everything.

And let's think about this even more. Stroud...was NOT the problem. Does anyone think "if we need to fire a D-coach, it needs to be Stroud?" Same thing for Banda. So, yeah, two coaches might be leaving who were NOT the worst offenders (even if they might have been let go if the ENTIRE D-staff was fired at once).

So then, if Stroud/Banda were not at the top of the firing list...and the ONLY guy who takes a bullet is Rumph...AND NOT THE FREAKING DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR HIMSELF...

Yeah, if that is the takeaway, it is illogical, insane, and I'll be done with Manny for the rest of his short career at UM.

I'm only assuming based off the wording of all the reports...but Rumph isn't being fired, he's leaving. Unless someone wants to clarify that...Because literally nowhere does it say "fired", only "leaving".

Would love to have Simpson back. But want to have an absolute beast at DB coach since it makes a difference if we have a good talent developer and recruiter there. Where do you think the expected DC will fit in from a position coach perspective given what you are hearing? And are the other DL coaches besides Simpson that you are hearing about upgrades over Simpson? Thanks.
The co-dc could fit at DB or DL it just has to be the right guy. Then the other pieces will fall into place.

Personally, from what I’ve heard about Simpson and the times I met him... he could be our DC himself. I just don’t think Manny sees him that way or wants to be the first to jolt him to that position at this level or even Co-dc for this scenario.

The other 2 guys I have heard have already been DC or co-dc at the college level, of course Chris Wilson was co under manny and took over when he left MSU.

IDK about playoff roster, but he definitely should have gotten 10 wins outta that schedule. At the very least, 9 and maybe a close loss to Nor..... Phucc it! He should have gotten 10 wins wit that schedule.
I mean..given the fact we played exactly 10 games I guess it was 10-0 or bust for u..if we didn’t have games canceled he would’ve..I predicted a 10-2 reg szn..we was 8-2 due to cancels

Correct.

I also thought about this in a cynical fashion. In essence, Manny gets to "take credit" for bringing in three new coaches when only one was "let go". That's a pathetic way to do things, but as much as I have been hoping for Manny to "get it" and become more of an executive head coach, I am at least contemplating that there is a part of him that wants to do just enough to look good while not admitting defeat.

That has nothing to do with whether he is "friends" with Baker. It has everything to do with being able to tell people "see, we have been so successful that other schools are giving our guys promotions".

But, yes, if you put a gun to my head and said you can only fire ONE guy on defense, I'd fire Baker and keep Rumph, even though I know that Mike has dug himself a huge hole that he's not going to be able to climb out of.

Two guys - yeah, Baker and Rumph.

Keeping Baker is insane. I don't even know if putting Baker in a wooden crate as an "in-name-only" Co-DC would address what a drag Baker is on the entire defense.
If baker doesnt get fired, then manny should get the kick in the ***.this team was horrible last year and the defense was horrible this year.u cant get whoop like that by unc a basketball school or any team and not fire the defensive coordinator.

And in this scenario does bringing in a co-dc mean that Baker is gone?
I’m still running with my understanding that baker isn’t going anywhere and what they came up with after UNC was a new co-dc - this was right after Banda got his job - and they were gonna fill his spot or Stroud with a guy that could bring a new perspective and make tweaks. I’ve not heard anything on baker since then.

So obviously things would be different if that changes.

A friend in agency has also not gotten any wind of a change coming and they’re usually first to know or know when there’s smoke and he’s said nothing.

Yeah, my bad for the miscount, but losing to Clemson was the only loss we should have had wit that schedule

I have said I wouldn’t have rather has him than baker

Do you think or know
I don’t know what came of that Manny and Blake meeting yesterday so I’m not gonna call a Blake firing

But there’s no sense in replacing 3/5 of your defensive staff and still having a question mark on your DC. If there is a right time to do it - id do it while I’m replacing everything els

do you think Blake will be replaced or know of it?? Who wants the job is the next question

I had us losing to them and on the road to Va tech preseason. But in no way did I see us going 10-1 or 11-1
