Chad Thomas Gettin' Big

I'm not talking about playing every snap on the interior, I'm talking about being versatile enough to move around to keep the offense off balance.

Keep the offense off balance how?

If he's anywhere in the 245-265 range the offense will be THANKING us for lining him up inside. The only down where a kid his size creates a mismatch is on 3rd down & long where he can rush from the inside.

It seems like he needs to be an OLB in this defense to make maximum impact. I want him coming off the edge and we really don't have our DE's doing that. Maybe it's because we don't have any DE's with his skill set, but it seems to be more schematic.

Reference this pic two years from now because it's gonna be hilarious. After hearing him and Jackson talk about push-ups multiple times as a way they planned to train and get bigger before arriving here, when Tho,as steps into a real weight room, he's gonna explode.

I think he's going to end up looking and playing like JPP by the time he leaves here.

This is what I came to this thread to write. The guy was supposedly doing "a lot of pushups." On a big frame. As a 17 year old. He's going to be a ****ing monster.

I see plenty of weights in that picture. Why isn't their plans to use those weights?

No, I think it was an old quote from him. Saying he had been working out by doing "a lot of pushups."

Disagree. He's extremely strong, with a number of developed pass rushing moves. It would be a mistake to pigeon hole him as an edge rusher. We have enough of those guys already. Ideally he takes Chick's spot and becomes a Justin Tuck type beast who can rush inside or out depending on the situation. He may not be big enough yet for that, so as a freshman he may get the AQM treatment, but eventually that's where I see him going.

I see what you're saying but we don't really allow our DE's to get off blocks as much as I would like.

Ha. True. Relying on a once-in-a-lifetime type of genetic freak as a counterexample is like relying on having BJ Raji, Vince Wilfork, Casey Hampton or someone like those guys consistently available to a college defense so that it works well. Wait...

I see what you did there.

It was a thinly veiled tongue in cheek comment for those that know the back story. But yeah, i hear you.
