I can understand Chad Thomas response. I too thought of him as a new Danny Stubbs and that has not happened. What concerns me is the Grace comment about the D being too complicated. Kid will wish he never said those comments when he is being asked about them next year for scouts. Is he dumb? Does he not like to prepare? In the NFL you have to learn different parts of a defense every week. Every week you are changing and getting more complicated on the defensive side. As a scout I would be all over that.
He won't regret it. He's correct. Our D is inappropriate for what is prescribed at the college level. It doesn't mean he won't be able to handle more complexity in the NFL.
The NFL is a professional job. He won't have to go to any classes, show up for the study hall requirement, and can basically devote all of his time to football. As a scout, I think your interpretation would be out of context. You'd miss out on a potentially valuable player because you wanted him to either express appreciation for or remain silent on his duties of completing whole calculus word problems before being able to make a tackle within our defense.
