2028 Casey "SuperMan" Barner 5* Safety from Powder Springs, GA (McEachern HS)

At 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, Barner is a tad on the short side but has a very compact build. He likes to get physical and is always in attack mode. Ranked as the No. 1 safety in the country, I would actually love to have Barner in the nickel. A very lazy comparison for him is Tyrann Mathieu.

And Jaquan was a pretty bad boy at UM, so both too those would be welcome!

Barner’s offer list already reads like a College Football Playoff field.

Georgia became the first program to reach out when direct communication opened on June 15, but the Bulldogs are far from alone.

“Miami, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Indiana, Auburn, Georgia and some others have all been reaching out every day.

Ohio State, Miami and Georgia look to be mainstays in this race​

Over the summer, Barner returned to Columbus. Few schools have hosted Barner more often than Ohio State. He’s already visited Columbus three times, and each trip has reinforced why the Buckeyes remain firmly in the mix.

“The coaching style,” Barner said when asked what keeps bringing him back. “They’re big on development. They put guys in the league. That is what Ohio State is about.”

One program that significantly boosted its standing this summer is Miami. Barner visited Coral Gables for the first time and immediately connected with both the coaching staff and current players.

“I made a great relationship with some of the players down there. Miami really impressed me. I can see myself fitting into what they do with their safeties and how they use them around the box.

“My first visit there was great. It showed me a lot. I spent time with some players and the coaches.”

He plans to return to both Ohio State and Miami for games this fall.

“Committing early is a possibility, but I won’t rush it,” he said. “I want to build strong relationships, get ahead in the playbook and put myself in position to play early.”

We've known for a while that Ohio State has grabbed his attention in a big way. Miami is a very real threat to pull him from the Peach State. I still feel as though the Buckeyes have the edge heading into an important junior year, but this one is close.

Feels like UM in its dark days losing all the best out of S Fla.
 

State of Georgia's No. 1 defensive prospect: safety Casey Barner​

The nation's No. 1 safety has been recruited as such, and while an original visit schedule was released, there's been at least one addition to that and at least one more along the way.

Barner will start his visit campaign off this fall for Georgia's Week 2 matchup against Western Kentucky, what's being marketed as a new-uniform white-out game and shaping up to be one of Georgia's more jam-packed recruiting weekends. He will then go on a series of visits to: USC, Texas A&M, Miami, Ohio State, Indiana and Alabama. Ohio State, Miami and Texas A&M are three programs mentioned, rightfully so, most heavily with Barner right now — perhaps even more so than the in-state Bulldogs. Auburn, who doesn't have a game day visit currently scheduled, remains a sleeper in this recruitment.

One likely add to this schedule — though not officially set in stone — is the LSU at Ole Miss game in Oxford.

Here's a look at Barner's complete schedule so far:

  • Sept. 26: Oregon at USC
  • Oct. 3: Arkansas at Texas A&M
  • Oct: 17: Florida St at Miami
  • Nov. 7: Oregon at Ohio St
  • Nov. 14: USC at Indiana
  • Nov. 28: Auburn at Alabama
The Buckeyes should be seen as the team-to-beat in this recruitment, but there remain a handful of teams in the discussion that shouldn't be excluded from consideration
