Chip Kelly won more BCS bowls than Butch did. Herman won a national title as a coordinator. Fuente has had more 10+ win seasons than Butch, and he's only been a head coach for 4 years.

Not sure if you realize this, but Butch doesn't have a ring as HC either.

I like Chip Kelly. I think we all do. Although even a 5% shot of us getting him is optimistic, I still say we go after him.

I don't know if you want to compare Butch's record as a coordinator to Herman's. Comparing 2 SB's to a Natty just wouldn't be fair to Herman.

As of right now, Fuente and Butch have exactly (1) 10 win season apiece.
Butch had an 11 win season and (3) 9 win seasons in his first 6 years of coaching at Miami. In those 71 games he played 24 ranked opponents (33.8%, or, better than 1 out of every 3 games).
Fuente has (1) 10-win season in his first 3-years and will have another soon. He has played 3 ranked teams in his first 46 games (6.5%, or, less than 1 in every 15 games).

I like Fuente and think he's a solid candidate, but I don't think looking at 10-win seasons is the right tact here. You gotta believe Butch would have gotten a couple of extra wins in those 9 win seasons if he were playing 1 ranked opponent a year as opposed to 4.

Butch Davis is not available to USCe. Butch Davis is not available to Missouri. Butch Davis is not available to Virginia Tech. Butch Davis is not available to USCw.

He has money, he's doing good on ESPN, and there's one thing on his bucket list - winning a National Championship at UM.

What's the success rate for retread coaches that return to a school they previously coached at?

My guess is very poor with some rare exceptions. It rarely ever works.

We don't have that many examples at major programs to make a conclusion.
Robinson at USC, Snyder. Who else at a program that has won?

And the U deserves a coach who does more than get kids into the NFL. We've done that. We have more NFL kids on our teams than wins. I'm all set on that. I'd like to win on Saturdays for a change.

All he does is get kids into the NFL? what about create the greatest college football team ever, and had it not been for stupid *** BCS computers, we would have won the national championship his last year here. And he set us up to win 2 more national championships in a row, AND more. unless you're an idiot and really believe Larry Coker won those championships...

But yeah, i guess you're right, Butch doesn't win enough ACC games when he's completely rebuilding a football program. He completely rebuilt miami and unc. Look how we did after he was finished rebuilding. And now look where UNC is, they're doing pretty well.

I'm an Eagles fan, and actually see what he's doing . He just put all his eggs in the Marriota basket, that's my only real knock. Until he gets a qb for his style of offense he'll never get to run his full play book.

I'm also cool with his trades. Jackson was injury prone and a pain to deal with. Trading McCoy got us a starting lb and afforded us the money to have Mathews and Demarco. People forget the money that was freed up from those moves.

I actually like where the franchise is headed , we just need to get his style of qb to see the real Chip. But what he's done with Foles, Sanchez and Bradford is amazing . Just my opinion.

Butch only had 12 games per year. Fuente gets 13. Butch had multiple 9 win seasons. 10 win seasons are currently the new 9 win season.

Yeah, because Foles is a franchise guy. Bradford or Foles won't win anybody a title . So explain how is this dumb missy?

Bradford is way more talented than Foles, that's a fact. He's just injury prone.

Chip made the trade for draft bait, to put with a couple other players to move up. It's a win win, we trade him/ with others for picks ,or ride with him one year and he's gone. Then twelve millions comes off the books.

I am not a huge Chip Kelly fan. I dont like how the media has latched onto the "mad scientist" thing and played him up, in particular in the pros, like he is going to transform the NFL. A lot of the things he has done, as far as tempo, number of plays, was already happening in the NFL. The pass spread has been run in the NFL for awhile now. Honestly, I think Dennis Erickson deserves more credit as an innovator by running the offense he did at Miami in back in the 90's (one back, multi wr sets, bubble screens).

Having said that, Kelly was a good college coach. And I think he would do well at Miami. But I dont get too worked up over Chip because I think the odds of him being our coach are very very slim. Does anyone really think we are going to hire Chip Kelly?
