Cantwell is confident

Like the way he handles himself ... very articulate and confident. Acts / sounds like a college senior rather than a true freshman who has been on campus for 3.5 months. His future has no limits on the field in college, the NFL and after.

Cantwell is going to be a DUDE very quick for this team. He's Joe Thomas that developed as a tackle his entire childhood instead of playing tight end. That shotput number is no joke and makes him a comfortable projection.

Left Tackle from Day 1?

I thought RT would be a less stress spot, but he's the kind of prospect that will absolutely dominate. Set it and forget it player the moment he steps foot on campus. 5-star with that lil green gem.

I'm buying all the stock. He's well ahead of where I expected and he'll only get better.

I've been to Nixa and he's right. Every dude there and in Springfield looks like a high level shade tree mechanic with a cig hanging out their mouth and a lukewarm open can of busch light sitting on a flipped over five gallon bucket.

Sorry, couldn't resist. It's a blend of tough midwestern/southern country boys, though.

Zero concerns about Cantwell or our OL. They'll have some growing pains. But will be on of the most dominant OLs in the country by playoff time.

Our starting 5 looking pretty locked in now with Cantwell, McCoy, Pancake, Buchanan and Rodriguez. Then we several more guys who should be able to rotate in as needed without a lot of drop-off.

That's pretty darn optimistic at this point. I do believe Samson, McCoy, Cantwell and RRod will be a solid 4, although there will be some growing pains due to inexperience.

Buchanon seems to be in line to be that 5th starter, but again, very inexperienced.

6-8 is STILL a big mystery. You have guys like Meriweather, Congdon competing for PT. SJ is there for depth but I doin't anticipate being in the rotation due to size. Cline maybe?

I'm not feeling good about this OL yet. Maybe later this summer...we'll see.

Line looks better than originally thought it would. But it will need time to gel to get where we want to be. Schedule helps. Going against a darn good and deep dlone helps

I do wish they snagged another OL body in the portal. Going to need the young guys to step up for depth.

I’m with you. I think the OL is going to take a step back this year. That’s not to say it’ll be a bad unit. It was just elite last year, and I don’t think it’ll be at that same level again.

That said, there are a few things that should help:

(1) I think Mensah, plus the upgraded weapons around him, will present much more of a downfield threat. Defenses are going to have to respect his arm and won’t be able to just load the box the way they did at times last year, which should take some pressure off the OL.

(2) We also have a favorable opening stretch to get the OL some much‑needed experience and reps (Stanford, Florida A&M, Wake Forest, Central Michigan). We don’t face a team with a strong d-line until Clemson on October 3. That’s valuable in‑game and practice reps, which should help the unit find its footing and clean up what I expect will be a decent number of early mistakes driven by inexperience.

When Cantwell has a bad whiff in a game (it will definitely happen- he’s a freshman), a lot of people on this board will probably crash out

Where we got stung but I understand is Markel bell leaving early. If he had stayed, we would be better at OL for sure.
Absolutely then McCoy stays at G, Cantwell and Bell at T, McCoy and Samson at G, Ryan Rod at C. Meriweather, Buchanan are first two off the bench.

We are going to have to stay relatively healthy at OL this year given how young we are with lack of experience. Our national title hopes this year likely lies on how well this OL gels as the year goes on. Mirabal and Mario should still make this a solid group given their track record.
