After two dominating performances against FAMU (70-3) & FAU (38-10) , the #25 Miami Hurricanes will travel to Boone, North Carolina this week to take on the (1-1) Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Hurricanes are currently favored by 3.5 points this week according to Vegas Insider, and many experts are calling this game a “Trap Game,” but do the Hurricanes need to worry about a team that is (0-4) against ranked teams, since they shocked the world and defeated #5 Michigan in 2007?

Miami head coach Mark Richt thinks differently.

“How can you take this team lightly?” Richt said “How can anybody who knows football take this team lightly? We don’t even have to say that to our guys. They’ve seen the film. They watched them play against Tennessee. They know.

“It’s really almost an insult to have to answer the question. Not being rude to you, but this is a really good football team and everybody knows it and we’re geared up to try to do the best we can to play great that day,” said Richt.

Saturday’s noon kickoff will be the first road game of the season for the Hurricanes and Mark Richt’s first test as the head coach for his alma mater. Many expected the offense to carry the way for this team, but it’s been Defensive Coordinator, Manny Diaz, and his defense who have step-up and lead this team to their impressive 2-0 start.

The Hurricanes’ defense is allowing 205 yards per game this season, and while the Canes have faced two “cupcake” teams, their performance is still very impressive. The Canes are starting three freshmen LB’s in Shaq Quarterman, Zach McCloud and Mike Pinckney, who was the defensive player of the week; with 9 total tackles, 6 solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. The Canes’ defense also ranks #1 in tackles for loss in the entire country with 22.

This week’s opponent Appalachian State won’t be a “cupcake.” This is a App St. team who almost beat #9 Tennessee on the road, and honestly it was a gift from God when Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs dove into the endzone, fumbled the football and somehow Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd ended up with the football and gives Tennessee a 20-13 lead.

The Canes will be playing in front of a sold-out Appalachian State crowd and some are calling this their biggest home game in school history, this game is so crazy that once tickets were released, they sold-out in less than one hour.

Predictions: Many App St. fans are saying they will beat the Hurricanes this weekly and it’s honestly very disrespectful. I think Brad Kaaya leads Miami into Appalachian State and shows everyone why he’s projected to be a first round draft pick and a Heisman contender.

Score: Miami 48 Appalachian State 14

There's a difference between worrying and respecting an opponent. Every opponent you should know could beat you IF you dont get yourself right and not prepare and not get in the mindset of dominating the opposition. We are The U and should be heavy favorites but you cant just show up, those past teams that put 50+ on any team is cause they saw every opponent the same as a threat that needs to be stomped. I wanna see some savages show up every weekend to work their asses off whether its FAMU or FSU

The line in Vegas right now is Miami by 3, I guess y'all are betting the farm on this one then right?

I don't see one aspect they can match. If this was Al golden, I would've bet the house on us losing but the team responds to CR and the staff. For the second week in a row we're gonna be a lesser teams superbowl and I won't be surprised if they come out hot, but just like fau, attrition will start to show quickly.

Appalacian State's Strengths

Strong running game
Unpredicatable playcalling
Convert on 3rd Down
Efficient QB play
Mobile QB
Athletic defensive line and linebackers
Good tacklers

This team will not beat themselves and do not try and beat you in a play. They try and get first downs and frustrate you. They are extremely well coached. The only 100 yd rusher vs Clemson last year was Marcus Cox of App St. The best thing that ever happened for Miami is watching App State playing on the road at Rocky Top. Tennessee won on a FF that they fell on in the end zone and a missed XP early in that game.

I love our defensive tackles, linebackers, and safeties against this App State team. Norton, McIntosh, and Willis will have to get a good upfield push so Shaq and Pinckney can clean up the ball carriers. Jaquan Johnson will play a key role. This will be the biggest game ever played in Boone, North Carolina so I expect it to be close early. I like Miami in this game UM 23 App State 13.

What sucks is when we do stomp them out all we'll hear is "but it's only App State" lmao

Survive and advance. Win the games on our schedule. We could give a f*** what anyone says. The true CFB pundits of the world will give credit where credit is due. We just can't have them rush for 250 yds in a win, because at that point our defensive stats look overrated.
