It was really only one dogfight this year, besides Clemson. Even the UVA game wasn't really a dog fight. Should we always use the worst game we play as the indicator of where we are? Is it the most recent game? If so maybe we'll feel better after Saturday.

We beat UVA last year in one of the worst season's we've had in 50-60 years. We beat Virginia by less than a touchdown this year.

...and yeah, this is where we start to see who Miami is. End of October into November been a tricky time for Miami in the past 15 years or so. Road games are a little colder and we haven't played well in the cold. We start getting into the grind of conference play and due to a lot of factors we are closer to the mid-tier of the ACC than we are to the top, so we end up in some dog fights and have ended up on the wrong side of those and sometimes it leads us to careen off cliff.

We have a chance at going 10-1 this year, but it could quickly turn into an 8-3 kind of year, too. Every game is going to be an adventure from here on out.

On topic, I'm not sure how Miami having another batch of talented players that get a late shot at the pros is something newsworthy. We literally have this same conversation every.single.year. We puff up these players based on what, idk...but many think these guys are Day 2 or at worst early Day 3 guys and they end up going really late, if undrafted. This group doesn't seem much different.

FWIW - I think Quincy Roche and Brevin Jordan have Day 2 talent...but with Roche's lack of sack production this year and Brevin Jordan never fully healthy and giving us a full season, idk where you would expect them to go. Roche's athletic testing will be very important as well Brevin Jordan's. Jaelen Phillips has the physical makeup of a first round draft pick (athletic testing pending), but he hasn't gotten it together on the field. D$ had a great comp for him with Olivier Vernon (a 3rd round pick). A really good pro, but we got at best 50 cents on the dollar out of him here. We're about the same with Phillips right now.

The rest look like Day 3 to undrafted guys to me.

This is Jaelen Phillips first year back from not playing for over a year. He's not going to look the part on field this year. He will play better and better as the season goes along and if he considers going pro this year it'll be because scouts like his potential. Otherwise he could use another year to play at his highest level.

But yeah Brevin Jordan not staying healthy hurts him and so does Roches lack of sacks. He's not anywhere close to last years totals. Don't know if its competition or scheme. He is very active though. If he doesn't improve on his 2 sacks it will be bad for him.

re: Phillips, that is just an excuse for why he isn't contributing to All-Conference play. He's a fourth year junior.

The players right behind him in the 247 rankings in 2017...Chase Young...Top 5 pick. KLavon Chaisson...First round pick. And then a bunch of busts. If Phillips was the real deal, he'd be the real deal at this point. He still has room to develop and grow, but if he's bouncing to the pro game...just going to chalk it up as another 50 cent on the dollar 'Cane.

Nah its not an excuse. People need time to ramp up to their max. Phillips hadn't played a game in 2 years. You really don't think he'd have any signs of rust at all? He just got back up to game weight.

How much time does a 5-star talent need? Serious question. I know he's been a work in progress because of injuries and transferring...and I'm not trashing him as a player...I really like him, but the fact is, 6 TFL, 2.5 sacks in this defense? We've had worse players produce more and they ended up as Day 3 players or even undrafted. We shouldn't be having a discussion about him as a professional yet.

Nobody knows the answer to this question after an injury. Who knew we'd need halfway through Harleys sr season before he'd to start look like a Miami wr?

As I said earlier if Phillips goes this year, it won't be based on production (like you said) but on NFL potential.

He needs to do one more tour.

He hasn't played much in his career yet. He's played in 17 games so far in his career. I know people will point to GR15 and say, "hey, he only played in 11 games" but the reality is that when you are often injured and don't play much and you transform your body during rehab, logic says you need more experience to come into your own.

No order:

King
Roche
Phillups
Cam
Harly
wiggins
will and brevin
kicker
gaynor
Nesta
bolden
Don't see Wiggins or Harley getting drafted, although they have a chance to make a roster/PS if they become more consistent catching the ball. Borregales may not be drafted but will get a chance to earn a job. Gaynor is a good college player but probably not athletic enough for the pros.

I'd break them down like this:

GR15- 1st round
King- Day 3
Roche- Day 2/3 (depends on testing)
Phillips- Day 2 (goes higher than expected)
Cam- Day 3 (receiving skills get him drafted late)
Mallory- comes back. Next year, Day 2 if healthy
Jordan- Day 2 if healthy
Bolden- Day 2/3 (could see 4th round like Jenkins and Redwine)
Nesta- comes back

None of Miami's wr's are getting drafted. Mallory will be a mod here even if he is drafted. Not one Ol is getting drafted. Blades might be drafted but he won't do anything at CB. He'll get moved to S. I doubt carter gets drafted and if he does he'll be in a yellow suit.

I don’t think King, Wiggins, Harley, Gaynor, or Cam is getting drafted imho. If King is dogmatic on being a QB, no, he’s not getting drafted. But if he is open to being a player like Antwaan Randel El, then he might be able to slide in. The passes he throws are being picked off in the NFL.

Roche's stats through 7 games last season are almost identical to this season through 7 games. My take on this is he beat up on lesser competition towards the end of the year to inflate his stats. He isn't a bad player, but most were wrong thinking we'd get a Chase Young/Greg Rousseau ability player.

Spot on, D$. Agree 100%. Don't think Dee gets a combine invite but I think Harley will. Harley/Pope/Dee won't get drafted. Neither will Gaynor. JMO.
