Cristobal is trying to get more young energy on the staff to recruit. When Feldman as mentioning dead weight pretty sure thats what he meant. He wants the #1 classes, not 5th or 7th.
Youth, energy, and guys that are mostly unproven and not egotistical. Guys like Strong have no chance to be a HC again and felt obligated to be next in line for DC. Guys like Steele have nothing left to prove.

Ponce was the right kind of hire just a terrible fit with Gattis and having a WR coach that's OC is hard unless they have their guy for QB coach... which Gattis didn't have.

We don't need to create a pipeline of coaches to constantly promote within, instead we need to be grooming guys to leave for a promotion and going external to find their replacement. Then you hire guys back when they prove themselves elsewhere. That's the Saban model. Although he has groomed a few coordinators by first making them an analyst.

Good young coach that can recruit. Stanquan basically said if Nicholson stays there I'm going to Louisville.. which he ended up signing anyway.

Too bad he's a nole, his older brother is a nole, and his dad was a tarheel.
Louisville's starting LBs last year had 20 sacks. Yasir Abdullah, Opa Locka's finest, has 19.5 sacks in two years under this guy.

Cool.

Sounds like a guy who knows how to coach aggressive linebackers which actually makes sense with what the DC likes to do. Imagine the idea of hiring a coordinator first and then hiring a coach like this who actually meshes with what he does. I'm guessing Guidry has already had a discussion with Joe, Rod and Addae and they've bought in as well otherwise we will be seeing more turnover in the next couple of weeks.

The fit/chemistry here should be relatively seamles to Guidry. Bryan Brown runs a very aggressive scheme as well. Similar usage of fronts and alignment.

Young guy that's gonna understand and live up to the recruiting expectation. He's clearly done well in South Florida as well. He did a lot of the leg work on Capers, landed Stanquan Clark. His LB units have played pretty well on the field. Not a ton of high-caliber recruits but they're turning into All-Conference players.
