In response to the question "was he simply slaughtering bad competition by wisely assembling a roster of So Fla savages?"...Strong developed those players too, if they were at Miami instead they would be losing to any team with a pulse as well.
Also if Strong recruited that much talent from SFL at Louisville, he could do that at a greater level in Miami.
Another thing the AAC was better than or at least as good as the ACC those years. UCF beat Baylor in the Orange Bowl one year and Lousiville beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl the year before.
This year the AAC is definitely better than the ACC, so the over exaggeration about how Strong only beat on bad competition doesn't add up bc Miami plays in the ACC, but also they won OOC games as underdogs....
Yeah Texas lost to Iowa State, but that just shows that his team is inexperienced and still developing. But he has won and competed against the top teams in the BIG 12 as well, close lost to OK St., win against Oklahoma in year 2 of a developemental project.
Also how can you be a Herman fan when you criticize Strong for winning in the same conference Herman coaches in? The difference is Houston was gift wrapped for a HC to have success early at. What will his own team of players look like? Charlie Strong won with his own players at Louisville, those players came from SFL.
