Can this OL be fixed?

The 5 most talented OL on the roster are:

Trevor Darling
KC McDermott
Tyree St Louis
Bar Milo
Nick Linder

GTFOH - stop "star" gazing. 5 star player or not, McDermott has been terrible so far. He has shown nothing, except an ability to get beaten like a drum.

We don't know how much moving away from zone blocking will help. Might be the biggest boost of all, won't require the zombies to pretend they're athletic.

I'm hoping it allows them to use their size as an advantage instead of having guys that can't move zone block.

we have no idea if Milo is talented. i mean this previous staff burned redshirts like crazy and redshirted.

This group needs good coaching.....they might not be great but they will be better than you think this upcoming season.....

Coley didn't help with some of the plays he called.....

Yeah. A guy like Sunny has to evaluated a little differently. Don't know what the net gain will actually be for these guys, but it gives me a little more optimism than if we were moving to zone, or staying with it.

Sunny Odogwu played the best of any lineman why would we move him out of the starting lineup?...

He still wasn't that good. The entire o-line struggled from LT to Rt.

I am not saying the O-line was all world, but I think it was a lot better than the narrative that's being put out there. For example, this O-line gave up less sacks than Alabama's Oline during the season.

The issue was running blocking, but that was more scheme than anything else. We were running from the pistol and shotgun every play. I think the Online and the running game would've looked a lot different if we ran more from under center

Did you see how many hits Kaaya took? Did you see our run blocking? The OL was awful!

This Oline caused Mark to fire his college roommate and only man in world with all 5 Hurricane NC rings. Mark fired entire coaching staff -- I would say no player is safe. And that is the way it should be. Bad HC's hire bad staffs. Bad staffs get HC's fired. Bad staffs make teams bad. Bad teams get staffs fired. New staff give team new chance.

He redshirted because he lost a bunch of weight and came in at like 260 because he wanted to add good weight instead of just ballooning up.

We clearly have problems on the line, but in my opinion they were accentuated even more by the terrible physical conditioning of the team.

The new S&C regime alone will make they improve a lot. You can´t have 5 OL being beated so easily by 3 DL several times as we saw last season. And not only by a team like Clemson full of big time prospects. That sort of thing only happened because Miami players were trained to fail by the He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named regime.

That being said, we fail miserably in recruiting pure LT´s and I hope Tyree St Louis step up, because we can´t have Darling there. The young man is talented, but not for that position, and being exposed week in and week out could really hurt his confidence to play his real position.

Now, I can´t wait to see this OL having a true football off-season, changing their bodies and getting similar to what a real CFB OL looks like, instead of appearingt a bunch of paunchy kids out of shape

If this OL just gets in shape and stronger we will see a big improvement, from a mechanics standpoint that's up to the coaches that were hired.

Yes, this offensive line can be greatly improved. First, we were zone blocking with a bunch of kids that were not athletic enough to do so. Second, we almost always put our tackles on an island on passing downs with no tight end help. Third, because Kaaya was in pistol 95% of the time this year, he was absolutely no threat on read and ride to actually run the ball. Defensive ends could just pin their ears back and go. Fourth, on down and distance situations we were very predictable. This put too much pressure on our offensive line.

I think we have a serviceable group that can be improved to hold serve a couple years until we can improve the talent level. The 2017 OL Class has to be a success locally with a few top OL available. Hopefully we can add 3 to the 2016 Class. We got Lucas Niang visiting this week and if we can add Stewart Reese and the kid from Daytona, then that would be an excellent haul for this class.

The problem with relying on so many young players on the offensive line is that most are just not strong enough yet. You can try to bulk them up as fast as possible but you end up getting a bunch of fat guys. It takes time to really add the muscle to be an effective 300 pounder. Not just a fat guy. With a veteran line, you can hide the occasional sophomore or freshman. But last year's line was just so green, they were in a no win situation. I believe with another year of strength training and a scheme more suited to what they do best, this line can become a strength of the team.

We'll be improved just by the fact that these guys are all a year older and will be a year stronger with many starts under their belts. Another as a unit. I think this group, and the young guys pushing, can be serviceable. We done more with groups like this before.

2 max, Reese isn't considering Miami

Yes. People forget how young these guys are. They were also mismanaged by Golden. It is not a coincidence that the line played better when he got fired.

McDermott should have been starting at LG from Day One. He didn't even play there in camp. Gall should not have seen a meaningful snap. It was obvious in camp that he was not good enough.

Darling, Linder and McDermott will be good players if developed properly. Odogwu is a talented guy with bad knees. Isidora has been a disappointment but there is a reason Wisconsin wanted him. St. Louis and Milo have ability. Mahoney has a chance to play here.

Cut the excessive rotations, build continuity and chemistry with your starters, and keep developing your talented underclassmen. One of the positives from this season is that our OL got a ton of game experience. That will speed up the process.

What I've been saying. Not that they were good or anything, but, bringing back all those starts, another year older and in the weight room will only bring improvement.

the same goes for every position group. i have never seen more substituting than the last 5 years, on both sides of the ball. sure, context requires some personnel changes, but it was a constant shuffling that often created confusion and lateness.
