Can someone please enlighten me-Denver Kirkland

Newberg stated before that he never a silent to FSU

This

Golden got mad bcuz he was playing the kid just to get to Matthew Thomas and found out that the kid might have been playing him. Forced the kid to commit on the spot and kid said no he wanted to enjoy his announcement day. Kid went to Arky and was the best decision he ever made in his life

I think this and other Golden recruiting failures were well chronicled in Bleak Visions Episode IV: No Hope.

Thomas is a bust and Kirkland has had a nice career at Arkansas. The best part of the story is that Golden is gone!

kid tried to play us and was also telling another team that he was theirs (think was fsu or maybe was arky). Miami got ****ed and pulled his scholly and didn't wanna wait around for him. That happened and then alex collins fiasco with him mom not wanting him to go to arkansas and the board was in meltdown status for months

We didnt really mess up too much with collins, apparently he wanted to leave and he really liked arky hes into that whole red kneck stuff up there, i think he jist committed here to please his mom

I think he wanted to run behind Arky's Bulldozer O-line..

lol at people still pushing the "Golden/Coley outsmarted him" narrative when D$ is telling us exactly what happened. It could not be more straight forward. They wanted Thomas and were not that high on Kirkland.

Kehoe didnt like him SMH

Apparently he was committed to 2 schools or told them they were on top, we asked him to commit on the spot and he said no so we pulled the scholly then that created a **** storm, we never really saw him as a priority which was retarded another golden mess up along with a bunch of other kids that would have been canes if he didnt **** up their recruitment

Or he played us. Oh sorry, that doesn't fit the "every single thing that's ever gone wrong is directly the fault of al" narrative, does it?

Not at all what happened. You should get the facts before defending your boy "Al."

When they found out Thomas was going to FSU they pressured Kirkland - who Golden wasn't high on to begin with, and only had an offer to land Thomas - to commit or they'd pull his offer. Kirkland said he wasn't ready, they pulled his offer, Ice aired them out publicly, and now we start Alex Gall.

There's no need to create a narrative when the reality is sad enough.

This is exactly what happened. I have a message from a friend of mine that was on Golden's staff saying that they weren't high on Kirkland (messaged him around the All star games...where they legitimately thought they were getting Alex Collins and Matthew Thomas). They were going to take him basically as a package to get Matthew Thomas. When they realized they weren't getting Thomas then Kirkland was sent to the back of the line.

I remember messaging him during all the Under Armor practices...Kirkland looked like a **** beast. I could not figure out why the **** they didn't like him. I'm no expert so I "trusted the process". See where that got us.

Another note...the day before Alex Collins made his announcement to Arky online I was told by the same guy to tune into the announcement because it was gonna be a "Canes parade". **** was I disappointed.

I would like to hear Micheal Barrow's version of what really happened.

I was in regular contact with a coach as the whole thing played out. We didn't like Kirkland.

I heard similar stuff. I guess I had better sources at the time. I rarely get that kind of specific information about a prospect anymore, but I do remember hearing that were kind of cool about him, and somebody who was a good source said he wasn't sure Kirkland really had a commitable offer.

Arkansas OL Denver Kirkland's 3-cone time of 8.72 seconds has to be up there for one of the worst times ever recorded.

Google it

What was the story with golden taking away his scholarship? He ****ed so many people off from my recollection doing so (contingent on Alex collins?) well Kirkland is foregoing his senior year and will be in the league. Huge miss and PR nightmare

Funny...just saw your question. I was going back to some old threads to refresh my memory about some of the recruiting battles of several years ago...trying to remember what the story was with Kirkland. I'm older than most on the board. One of my friends who was very very much an insider died a few years ago. I guess i just don't get as excited...I've been through so many ups and downs with the program since I started following it as a young kid in the 1950's that I've developed patience. I got my interest in UM football from my father, who attended the U back in the '40's. He was a season ticket holder in the 1950's. I never attended UM. I've always been sad that my father did not live to see the success we had starting in the '80's. When he was a fan, we never could even dream of a national championship.
