Can someone explain this old wives tale to me?

"If you start a young QB against a good team and he gets crushed you will ruin him."

Where the **** does this actually come from? It is bull**** if you ask me. Players don't grow without adversity.

I have heard porsters say this in terms of why you can't play Emory at FSU over a hurt TVD. It makes no logical sense and is just a soft mentality excuse. Ask Tua.

Used to be the case with a different generation of player.

Now we're in an era where Trevor Lawrence can throw four picks in the first half of a Playoffs game and then turn it around second half for a comeback win.

Kids today have short memories and don't get confidence fully destroyed by one bad game—thanks to the overconfidence they're now raised with.

You don't start Williams against FSU because they playbook would have to be so dumbed down and simplified like it was against Clemson for him to just hang. He's not ready. Meanwhile Brown still can't hit the broadside of a bard with his passing game.

You start Van Dyke. hope he plays to his potential and you have Williams ready to go if No. 9 starts giving the game away—while having a few plays drawn up or Brown's athleticism for third down or goal line situations.

If a QB collapses because of one game and let's it snowball, then he shouldn't be your QB. There's a reason it's considered the toughest position in all of sports. A QB can have all the physical tools in the world, but if he doesn't have the grey matter and fortitude then he'll never be great.

I’m gonna keep beating this drum.

If Brad Kaaya can become the all time leader in passing after the beating he took is his first start, anybody can. That dude should have been in a mental institution after the Louisville game.

Makes zero sense to me. Emory would start and did against Clemson if TVD cant go right? But you do not throw Emory to the wolves because TO-VD is stinking up the joint. Really? I think the O line would play with more intensity if Emory is inserted as the starter this week. Simply cannot be any worse than who is starting now.

Remind me, didn't our starting QB go down last year and we had to play Jake and JB (who were atrocious). that said and what has me phased/****ed is that our **** coaching staff didn't recruit a formidable back up at a position we MIGHT run into a similar issue or whats actually happening which is worse! That shid seems like some **** incompetence if ya ask me. Mario must have had alot of confidence in Emory at some point to take that risk i'd assume.

I think it just exposes if a kid has “it” or not quicker. Emory seemed like he may have “it”. No shake in him agaisnt Clemson just went in and competed

Spot on

At this point if EW or JB don’t ball out and show huge promise for 2024, the future is bleak as **** and it might be time for me have an intervention with the team I love so dearly
I already had the intervention. Doesn’t bother me anymore. Last year was the end of it for me… even though I’ve been to 7 of our 9 games this year.

I don’t think I could flip my fandom somewhere else but by no means am I heavily invested emotionally anymore. I dont even get mad at it

It took about a gallon of tequila and alcohol poisoning after the loss to MTSU to get there but I did.

It's horse ****, nothing more or less.

Clement and Costa went there before him... never came out

It’s an awful feeling coming to grips with it

I can’t say I’ve experienced this first hand, but it’s comparable to having an abusive or drug addict loved one that you have to distance yourself from

We played a true freshman against Clemson and won. You need any more evidence?

And if a loss on the road to a top 4 team ruins your confidence you shouldn't be a division 1 qb to begin with.
5-4 Clemson isn’t a huge win like it once was. And even nfl qbs get their confidence ruined by playing for bad teams or when they’re not ready

I mean, It’s somewhat ironic that you’re asking what confidence can do for a QB when we’ve literally watched a train wreck in slow motion the past few weeks on what happens when a QB loses confidence.
OBM - all live but we can’t create a crutch for these player or kids in general.

Put a solid game plan together that is tailored to his strengths (crossing routes, passing concepts of 7-12 yards, screens, mix in the occasional deep ball down the sidelines, and the run) and just let it ride. Mix in some Jacurri packages and keep their defense in conflict as much as possible. He’s already been in the fire.

What I would not do I just line up and pins the ball at every opportunity and then expect him to complete a 3rd & 7 or longer every time.

Must keep the 3rd down distance manageable. Throw on first downs instead of always running on first downs.

The coaching has to be better. Plain and simple. I believe he can handle the moment just fine.

If I’m Dawson I bang the table for the scenario you mentioned with EW and JB

Unload the clip with playcalling. Go down swinging. Or go wing T with JB, and play 1950’s football. But we cannot go into the game with the same plan of the past 4-5 games

If Mario tells him no, and pushes to start TVD I’d bounce if I’m Dawson
Whole heartedly!

If Mario is dictating the offense (which I think has been going on to an extent and Shannon may just be happy doing what he is told but who knows) I am bouncing.

Mario being a meat head and a stubborn ****, I can see him dictating **** like this.

I would’ve gone to three gallons of tequila after GT this year but for me if available.

That game was my breaking point.

I’ve become apathetic since then. I go to the games and I don’t get mad or overly happy. It’s just a yay for me..

Not sure how I would have reacted at the time for the GT game. I left the stadium after we fumbled during the review. I told my wife I know they’ll say it’s GTs ball and jokingly said they’ll probably drive down and score too.

Sure enough they did as soon as we walked out of the gate and I could hear it.

Just kind of shook my head and went and blew money at the Hard Rock and Gulfstream.

Bernie Kosar's first game against the Gator in 1983 was a 28-3 loss where he threw 3 interceptions. He did OK after that.
