Nice post OP!
Here's the only difference between comparing what Richt is stepping into vs what JJ and Erickson stepped into:
Howard preceded JJ. Howard got folks believing in Miami football, made sure kids stayed home, and won a title. JJ slid right in after that, utilizing the same formula, and basically took over the keys to the Lambo. JJ didn't crash the Lambo, and then handed the keys to Erickson, who again, used the same formula that had preceded him, and didn't crash the Lambo either.
Richt situation is totally different. Who are his predessors?? Shannon and Golden...two of the most non-trusted coaches we've had here. They've dang near burned down the place! Richt is going to have to be Butch here, who took over a program after Erickson decided to get drunk behind the wheel from celebrating too much and crashed the Lambo. It took Butch some time to get the Lambo restored, but once he did, it began humming again.
The only positive is that I see Richt getting the Lambo restored a lot quicker than Butch did...but regardless, he's got work to do. He's going to have to gain the trust of parents and HS coaches again, and that trust is not going to come from some hand shakes, some visionary plan he has in mind, and being a man of Gawd; we just had a soothe-sayer leave this program, and I'm sure the community is quite tired of talking. If Richt can win now, which I truly believe he will, then that Lambo will start being restored ASAP.
Miami has had the quality of players, combined with favorable schedules, to be a Coastal Division Champion and a 10 win team each of the last two years. The cupboard is not bare, and if he can exercise the demons to get that 10th win this year, a level of trust will begin to be reborn here and he will be more than elite, he would be an icon here.
